for saying id give Greg Monroe 11 mil to play here when you guys want to give Gay a max contract? There goes all our cap space on a guy who would make us worse. :banghead:

Edit: isn't Gay just a slightly better Gerald Henderson? I mean Gay may not be as one dimensional as Hendo but I feel like they have very similar play styles. That's really the last thing the Hornets need

Rudy Gay will not command a max contract. Gay's market value will be between $8-10 million annually. I doubt that he opt out of his final year, but if he does it will only be because a team offered him a security blanket in a 4-5 year contract. I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't be opposed to it for bias reasons

I mean I still think that's too much for him. I just don't see how someone could say he could help this team when I'm sitting here watching his highlights and he looks identical to Gerald Henderson. Gay has a 30% 3pt shooting percentage but a 45% field goal percentage. We don't need another inside shooter we need a damn perimeter shooter and signing him will just move this team backwards.

If it makes you feel better, I'd take Monroe over Gay 10 times out of 10. However, I'd take the "neither" option more often than that.

Cut bait with Hendo.

I know our hate for his game has erratically increased during this series, but as some of us already stated, it's not his fault. He was more or less forced into the role of a 3rd/4th option, since no one else is available.

That said, it's no secret that Hendo is a great locker room guy and I think one of the main reasons why we have this amazing team chemistry. Therefore we should keep him as a 7th/8th man off the bench.

The locker room is the only reason I wouldn't. However, I do NOT want to see him starting next year. If we don't have a Lance Stephenson, or Arron Afflalo, or Jeff Green, or Klay Thompson, or Carmelo Anthony (lol) starting for us, I'm going to be a little disappointed. I'd keep Hendo around as a backup at the 2 and 3 along with CDR, but if the right deal came along, I'd trade Henderson. We've got all summer to build back the chemistry.

Also, an emphatic hell no to Rudy, and a nearly as emphatic hell no to a completely laughable duo of Al Jefferson/Greg Monroe. How the hell would that work with MKG at the 3???

It was more so a pickup to build for the future since Al could opt out of his contract, I realize how silly it is, I'm just in love with ALs post game and want it
To be a vocal point in our offense but I understand our spacing would be awful.

I'd do it straight up, no 2nd rounder needed. Maybe even ask them if they want a 2nd rounder to take him off our hands for such a good deed

Sadly had the same thought. I think Boston would want some incentive to take on salary and lose a promising prospect.

Not sure if Patty Mills is a UFA or not, but the way he lit up Kemba this season I think he could be an insane pickup if we could trade for him. Hendo for Mills? Off the top of my head I think Mills is a free agent though.

Thats who I want to backup Kemba then. He gets points in a hurry.

no thanks, he's a chucker who has looked good in San Antonio's system.

Sounds a bit like someone else on our roster.

He sure looked good bringing Kemba out in iso situations and lighting him up though...

No knock on Kemba, Kemba is the better player, but that isn't Popovic's system as to why he played so well against us. Unless Popovic enjoys his PGs going one on one. Which I doubt.

Pop's goes with what is working. That game Patty was on fire.

Mills averages less than 2 assists a game as he isn't normally even playing point guard, they play him as an undersized 2 guard.

Is Gerald Henderson's defense overrated or is Kemba Walker's defense underrated?

I ask this because I tend to find that the popular consensus consider Henderson a solid to above average defender and Walker a average to below average defender

However, since Walker has came into the league he has had a better defensive rating and more defensive win shares than Henderson in each of his three seasons in the NBA

I'm not making a dispute. I just want to know if anybody has a concrete argument for Henderson being a good defender outside of perception

Gerald has good size, strength and athleticism for SG so by default he's not a bad defender. But he's not a particularly good one either. Where Kemba trumps him is lateral quickness, he's able to stop the ball for the most part which is about the only defense a perimeter defender can do in today's NBA.

For me personally, I think it's just the eye test. He is a fast twitch defender with good lateral quickness, awareness and timing. He seems to be very competent defending off the dribble and generally doesn't require double teams to help contain drivers.

With that said, I haven't look at his advanced stats and maybe I overestimate his contributions on that end of the floor.

When he is locked in Gerald is an above average defender 1v1
