Re: The Trade Thread
1) Josh Smith/#8 to Charlotte for MKG/#24
2) Brandon Jennings to Sacto for Jason Thompson
Pistons save ~$10 mil off next year's cap, opening up ~$20 mil in cap room.
Sign Lowry or Isaiah Thomas and Gordon Hayward
Draft Shabazz Napier at 24 and a big at 38
Lowry or Thomas/Napier/Siva/Bynum
MKG/KCP
Hayward/Mitchell/Singler/Datome
Monroe/Thompson/Jerebko
Drummond/Rookie big

Smennings for Boozleavy
Why? expirings. Booz can maybe be bought out. Dunleavy can fill a role. Maybe even Boozer stays, but less minutes. He has range compared to Drummoose.
Why for Chicago? I guess if nothing else works out. They take in extra money for next year (and beyond) but they don't have to re-sign Hinrich either. Thibs is the type of coach who can get something out of them. And no matter how butturt we are, Smennings are talented players.

for the 1000000000th time, boozer is getting amnestied by the bulls this offseason so they can offer melo a deal.

Chicago would love Melo, yes. But they aren't amnestying Boozer until Melo or some other awesome plan is already in place hence my phrasing.

boozer's contract is deadweight. period. they're going to amnesty him and replace him with a significant player to compliment their roster. they hope that player is melo, but they'll have plenty of backup options available.

How silly of me to not assume things and to have in the back of my mind that the NBA is a business.

Thornton and Teletovic (expirings) for Smith, offered by a Nets fan.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

You said they for sure will pay a player $16.8m to not play. And accused me of idea-illusion confusion.
And you underestimate smennings. As much as I want them gone, they have their skills. I won't call it good or bad for Chicago, but they would fit better there than on the 2013-14 Pistons.

No
Tell Nets fans to give us some quality players in return then we'll have a serious discussion.

okay, when you find a reasonable deal for boozer's $16.8m that nets the bulls both cap relief and and a talent upgrade, then let me know. an obnoxious LOL at the notion that that deal is smennings. until that deal happens, i am fully convinced that boozer will be amnestied. of course they have to at least try to trade him. that doesn't mean they will, let alone for...SMENNINGS HAHAHAHAHAH

I would do this trade. Then try and trade Jennings for Bargs expiring deal just to get him off the team. Then throw some big offer at Lowry and Bledsoe to see if one sticks. If not I think Collison maybe a FA this year as well. Draft Lavine or maybe trade up a few spots to try and get Ennis if he really drops.
Collison/Ennis or Lavine/Siva
KCP/Lavine/Bazemore
MKG/Singler
Monroe/Bargs
Drummond/Harrelson

your name is coolness and you suggested that Chicago would be interested in trading boozer for smennings. That's two strikes, but hey, at least you're going down swinging!

I suggest they COULD. Only one of us pretends to speak for Chicago.

That'd work. The Nets have no cap flex and not much cap space for the next few years so adding Smith is one of the few ways they can upgrade their talent. Thornton can play too, though strictly in a sixth man, heat-check type way. He's put up 19 points per 36 minutes throughout his career on pretty good true shooting percentages (54%). This would instantly upgrade our shooting...though it would NOT help our problem with bad shots and ball movement!

If I can offer some friendly arbitration here, you both have points. The Bulls aren't guaranteed to amnesty Boozer--they'll do so only if they think they have a realistic chance at Melo or another significant FA. Otherwise they'll probably try to trade him or else just roll with him next season. I think they feel like they can wait on Mirotic one more year, and they don't want to sign or trade for a guy who doesn't decisively make them better (like Deng or Stephenson--not sure either pushes them over the top). The front office is patient and Reinsdorf is cheap, so they value flexibility and don't like the idea of throwing money out to mid-level players. So that means I doubt they'd be interested in Smith and Jennings at this point, and they might value Boozer as an expiring next year rather than as an amnesty guy this year.
