Jays still interested in Samardzija; what would you offer?

The Toronto Blue Jays have continued to pursue Samardzija in a deal that would bring back an inventory of young pitchers for the Cubs, if a contract is not agreed upon soon. Toronto had top scout Jim Beattie at Monday’s game. The Cubs have had scouts watching Blue Jay minor league pitchers since the beginning of spring training.

i mean obviously stroman and sanchez should not be in play, but what do y'all think would be a fair package to offer the cubs for the right hander? he's pitched decently so far this season, just hasn't had any run support. however, his peripherals have taken a slight dip as he's striking out less batters, missing less bats, and his FB velo is down one mph. still he would undoubtedly improve the rotation, but at what point is the price just too high and would any deal for him make sense?

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

I can't conceive of giving up Sanchez, Stroman, Norris or even Osuna.

Nolin has pitched well for Buffalo, and he'd be a worthy part of a package. Key is, if this season goes south, I would like to know what direction the team wants to take before sanctioning trades. Do they want to do a reload for next season, or take a more measured approach that might include selling off a major leaguer or two for prospects? Samardzija is more of an impediment if we're going for at least a partial rebuild as opposed to another Band-Aid

The Cubs won't do it without at least one of Stroman or Sanchez in the deal, I suspect.

I would love to try and pull a San Francisco or St. Louis and keep our prospects so we could develop our own pitchers.

I would offer nothing.

We did that with Drabek. He busted.

They could bust again and you'll end up getting nothing for them. Or they could be good. We'll never know until it happens.

Or they could be good initially but then become an extreme bust (i.e. Romero).

Not much. I'd much prefer getting a real second baseman instead.

Potentially watching Samardzija pitch for the Jays would be bad for the eyes.

Weird looking dude.

I wouldn't offer anything that the Cubs are likely to take, because they understandably want quite a bit, and I don't think that we're in a position where we can justify moving quite a bit.

I would offer any prospects that they want, because this team's ineptitude at developing prospects isn't going to change in the near future. Just go all in. So what if it fails, we'll sell off all our assets and do a complete rebuild with a more competent GM & a restructured farm system.

I wouldn't make a serious move for Samardzija until we figure out what this team really is. We have a really high ceiling but also a really low floor. The worst possible thing we could do is give up a Sanchez/Stroman for him now, and watch the rest of the team crumble around him.

What would you offer?

Nothing right now.

I'm okay with our SP for now. We can talk about trades later on.
