OT: Sterling Banned for Life

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/233167/Donald-Sterling-Banned-For-Life-By-NBA-Fined-Max-Amount-Will-Be-Urged-To-Sell

Donald Sterling has been banned for life as owner of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Sterling has also been fined $2.5 million, the maximum amount allowed under the NBA constitution.

Adam Silver will also urge the NBA owners to force a sale of the franchise. Silver spoke to several NBA owners and he's confident he has their full support.

"As part of the lifetime ban, Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices, be present at any Clippers office or facility, or participate in any business or player personnel decisions involving the team," said Silver. "He will also be barred from attending NBA Board of Governors meetings and participating in any other league activity."

The lifetime ban is independent of a sale of the team.

Well Silver's first move as comiss is a good one. Forcing him to sell is going to be tough but its the right move and its a move that should of been made years ago.

Good, the racist old prick.

I would imagine this'll be dragged out as long as possible though, could possibly run out of steam if not handled correctly. But i hope he gets kicked the curb. Clips fans have had to put up with him and his opinions for a LONG time.

as long as 3/4 vote him out, he has to sell. there is no drawing it out, He has to sell, now how long it takes to sale is a different timeframe entirely, but as long as that vote is good there is no way he can permanently remain owner

Good luck in court Silver.

Sure your own league/organisation can have it's rules but the law is the law.

Sterling had his privacy breached and was recorded without consent.

And... by the scum at TMZ of all people. The same 'journalist' responsible for spewing some of the biggest bunch of crap over the years. Coercion, convenient editing, flat out lies. Would love to see their recording even attempted to be used in court as evidence.

And again, what someone says (believes maybe, we can't judge from a few bits of audio) and actually does are two different things.

When we are angry and say 'I'm gonna kill you' are we put on trial for murder? Nope.

Sterling hires, pays (hundreds of millions of dollars) and certainly doesn't put restrictions on any race on his team, his staff, his arena etc.

I think he sounds like a dick and someone I'd punch if I heard him say what he said but Silver has condemned someone for life without a trial and all based on the recordings of questionable people.

He thinks this will be the start to his legacy but to me, it's made him look like the typical, above the law type NBA power mongers.

That's biggest problem with all of this and I have the feeling this is going to be dragged out in court for years because of that simple fact even if the owners do vote him out.

Good. Sterling is scum, and the NBA has no place for him. I'm really tired of rich a-holes thinking that they can say or do what they like and just buy their way out of any trouble they get into.

Yup, that's the most interesting for me when Silver announced the decision.

Sterling isn't going to go quietly. I wouldn't too if I were Silver. I know it's not okay to be racist, but I think everybody has some sort of racist beliefs. Whether it's things like white people not wanting to marry black people. I bet if you poll 10 white guys, 9 will prefer not to. That alone means there's some sort of racist beliefs there.

I think Sterling is just an all around entitled a-hole who thinks his sheet doesn't stink. He has always seemed to me to be a guy who thinks he is better than everyone else who has less money than him regardless of race .

Everyone is jumping on the "raciest" thing like crazy. I think it has a lot to do with people wanting to hear themselves preach that "racism is bad". While I totally agree that racism is bad, I think everyone is going way too overboard with this.

The man should lose his franchise because it won't be able to compete in the league after this incident. Not because he said something dumb. I agree totally with Mark Cuban. Just because someone says something stupid doesn't mean they should be stripped of all their rights as an American.

Yup. I do feel that the Clippers will be better without Sterling and that Sterling shouldn't be an owner in the first place. But fact is that he is the owner and to kick him out because of this just isn't right.

The more I read about this the more it looks like the NBA's going to have a ton of trouble making Sterling sell. This is gonna get ugly.

Really man, seriously, me being a white guy myself, I could care less, ive date white black Chinese japenese Mexican portirican, any race, It should all be about chemistry, personality traits and character. I don't care what color a woman is as long as she will support me for life the way I would support her. that is a horrible way to look at things today dude. anyone who has a great relationship and just doesn't want to follow through with marriage because of ethnicity needs to take a good hard look in the mirror

for the record ALL OF US WHERE THE SAME COLOR AT ONE TIME. Either we all live in the north part of the world and as we migrated south we started to get sun burned, so over many years, our skin color darkened to avoid problems with the skin, or we were all a darker color at one time, and a migrated north, and through the course of many years, we did not need the dark skin as much, so the color of skin evolved and naturally became lighter. SO we were all a light color and migreated south and evolved into a darker color or vice versa bro. we are all the same people. that is a horrible thing to say bro

I'm not gonna elaborate on this. I'm not white. So perhaps my views on interracial marriage between black and white is wrong. But that's what I've been led to believe.

I'm chinese indonesian. The majority people in my country are native indonesian. Like blacks, I'm in the minority. The difference is, we're kinda like the white people in the sense that Chinese are usually the more wealthier people. Natives are mostly poor.

I will agree that the world will be a better place without racism. Unfortunately, the world I live in is full of racism. I wouldn't be racist to natives if it wasn't for the racist things they do in the first place. The climax is at May 1998. if you actually care to know, here's the link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_1998_r ... _Indonesia

Read the stuffs that had to do with Chinese people there. We're blamed for everything and the riots are by the natives toward Chinese. Raped and murders. Most chinese people are scared and fled the country. I spent my four years in San Antonio from 1994-1996, and then once again in 1998-2000. Guess what got me back to San Antonio the second time? We ran away from the country fearing my sister and mom getting raped or my dad getting killed. The riot is already happening just 2 blocks away. But eventually we came back because home is home.

Now, I don't have racist views on any other race other than Native Indonesian. I find the girls attractive. I would definitely bang them. They're hot, especially celebrities. And I'm friends with natives from college. I have 7 employee and they're all natives.

But marry one? Hell, even in a relationship with one? No. That's just not gonna happen. And vice versa. There will ofcourse be exceptions. You'll see some chinese with natives once in a while. Most of the time, it's just not gonna happen.

So like I said, I have racist beliefs. And I don't walk around thinking oh I'm such a bad person. I would if I go out of my way everyday to do racist things to Natives. I don't. I employ them. I have native friends, though not many. And that's just the world I live in man.. If you guys have no racist beliefs whatsoever, then more power to you. But the world we live in still has racism. And I don't mean just racism, cause I don't know what the other stuffs are called. A bunch of Ism.. But things like discriminating againts fat people or gays/lesbians or a bunch of other stuffs.

There's even racism (or can you call it racism?) in a smaller level.

For an instance. My current GF is from Medan (Indonesian City) and she (and her family) has one rule when it comes to relationship. No guys from Kalimantan (another Indonesian city). I really don't get why. It doesn't matter if they're both chinese. But it simply can't be from Kalimantan. Other cities are fine, but not from there.

My Ex GF has an even weirder rule. She's from Bagan (city) and she doesn't want to be in a relationship with guys from Bagan. I mean, that's her own city. What's wrong with guys from her own city? It can be any other cities, just not from her city. And that's not a rule she makes because she has her own history there as if she has banged everyone from her city or something. It's actually a common thinking among Bagan girls. Same with my current GF's thinking as a Medan girl. It's something I don't understand because I'm neither, but it's something known by a lot of people in here.

I don't know if that's also considered racism, but I'm sure whatever is called ends with an "ism" and isn't viewed as a good thing.

Is that racism or more of a class thing? Not knowing about your country I have no idea.
