i nominate the song played in the background of the corona commercial that they have played 1000 times in the playoffs for worst song.

BTW Fatlever, did you see the news that Steely Dan are playing the Biltmore Estate in Asheville this summer? Great place to see a concert (I've seen Bruce Hornsby and the Indigo Girls, for instance, there) as the show takes place on an outdoor patio with a view of the estate's 1,100 acres. They open gates several hrs early so you can have a picnic on the lawn.

In honor, I've been listening to some Horace Silver (doing his best CDR impersonation in this video), who's Song For My Father Steely Dan famously sampled for Riki Don't Lose That Number.

ps. Joe Dumars kills it on trumpet in this video, James Worthy goes solo way too long and just about ruins the whole damn thing on sax, and DJ White tips the unintentional comedy scales with a squirmming hemorroidhal performance on drums. Sheer brilliance.

i did see that snidely, but i wont be able to go. it falls on the last business day of the month and that is a day that i cannot miss at work, unfortunately. i definitely recommend seeing them for anyone in the area. i saw them last sept in charlotte and their band is ridiculously tight with possibly the best drummer in the world right now, keith carlock leading the band.

LOL at dj white and james worth.

in honor of "song for my father", i come back with "song for my brother" taken from carlos santana's jazz fusion album from around 1980.

BAND:
Herbie Hancock - keyboards
Wayne Shorter - sax
Ron Carter - bass
Tony Williams - drums
Carlos Santana - guitar

hard to beat that lineup

Oh yeah, this is probably one of my all-time 10 favorite mixes. One of Lupe Fiasco's best songs alongside Mutombo blocking the **** out of everyone? Hell yeah!

lamar, in the world of basketball mixes, is kblaze considered the bill russell of mix makers? his larry bird video from about 10 years ago is still one of the greatest 6 minutes of basketball ever put together.

I didn't know your taste in hip hop went as far as today's underground artists like Oddisee, Snidely. I'm impressed.

from what I've heard and talked about with others on forums the consensus seemingly is that Yinka Dare is the NBA mixmaking pioneer and inspiration to others. But Kblaze definitely is right up there alongside him. Maybe the fact that Kblaze's still active and reachable on the internet makes his work seem less old and exclusive.

if you are talking about the Larry Bird mix with Eminem's "Sing for the Moment", then I'm right there with you. It's one of my 10 top favorites and one that I'll watch once every three months or so.

I just love his Rick Barry mix from his later work. He just absolutely nails the song selection for the misunderstood and hated Barry. Moreover, the fact that he used the live version of this KInks song makes it seem even more emotional as if Barry himself expressed this feeling (he has done so, by the way. you can look up an article on the SI Vault where Barry wonders out loud why he isn't remembered as fondly as his peers):
