Smith was a reach, but they got their guy. I wonder though, if they thought they could trade back and still get Dee Ford.
Oh, please, White Wizard, tomorrow bless me with the drafting of either Jace Amaro or Jordan Matthews. It does not matter which one, just as long as the glorious light of the Green and Gold shines upon one of them before the night is through.

Not in Chip's and our GM's opinion

Smith was a 3rd rounder on my board, but he can get after the QB and that skill is at a premium. Not a bad pick at all, just a guy they probably could have gotten later.
My roommate is an Eagles fan, by the way. I had to convince him it was a solid pick, but he was just thankful it wasn't Manziel.

Maybe they should check in with you next time ?![]()
Here's an article from a month ago on why Smith could be a target for Philly late in the first round.
I know you're an Eagles fan and you have every right to get behind this pick. It's also clear you don't like the pick being questioned. I feel you. BUT, I think it's clear even in this article: this was a reach but a necessary reach because of a need. Smith was originally graded as a 3rd rounder - yet again - but as the draft process evolved he moved into the 2nd round. Why? Because this draft is woefully thin of premium 3-4 rushers. It's a commodity in the league. So, I guess I should have rephrased it: I understand why the Eagles reached for Smith here. But, I still think it's a reach. As were several other selections past 21, frankly. Of course this is merely my opinion...and, I would welcome their phone call if they so chose to consult me

I think a couple other things can be said about both the Packers and the Eagles.
The Packers were really counting on one of Shazier or Mosley. When both were nabbed they were absolutely lucky Dix was available.
The Eagles really wanted Dix. I was surprised, honestly, they didn't take Marqis Lee - Tony Pauline had been calling for either Lee or Cooks for months. Lo and behold, they traded back picked up a 3rd rounder (always a good move in terms of flexibility day 2) and got a guy they probably coveted in their 2nd tier. I imagine they simply didn't want to risk losing him and it says just as much about their feelings toward the 2nd tier of WR's as it does the lack of 3-4 OLB depth in this draft.

I'll personally never forgive you.

I've long thought Matthews was underrated. The dude has huge mitts and seemed to grab everything whenever I watched him.

Like both Matthews and Amaro as well, but this lb corp needs some speed and athleticism in the worst way, especially the middle, unfortunately appears to be a big drop off at that position.

Van Noy in 2nd OR Max Bullough in 4th are 2 decent ILB prospects

I heard they like Van Noy, but thought he was OLB....Bullough seems a bit slow, just thinking of CK running past GBs slow ILB's
