Reading the ups and downs of the play-by-play after the fact is much more enjoyable than Wolves game threads were this year

I was getting worried. If we didn't get back into the first round, we weren't going to get Teddy and by the time we got to Seattle I was pretty skeptical that it was going to happen. Spielman pulled it off though, and hopefully Bridgewater is as good as I think he is.

i don't like that everyone keeps saying we missed out on manziel when the browns outbid us for the eagles pick, the tweet doesn't mention who the vikes were going to take - it could have been teddy at that spot

heard an idea that the vikes could take another qb in the later rounds. what are your guys thoughts on that?

they figured that you could cut ponder because he's not going to be around going forward anyway and he doesn't have the benefit of knowing the system going into this season because its a new one - he's just going to be there

Doesn't make sense in my opinion. We still have many holes to fill- safety, offensive guard, cornerback, MLB, DT. Also Vikings did confirm that they tried to trade back up for Manziel but browns offered more. He was number 1 qb on our bored. I'm alright with Teddy (who has an irregular heartbeat) but the Barr pick baffles me still.

I guess overall we fill two holes, but I don't see any promising CB, or safety's that will be left in the third round. Maybe Pierre Desire but it's a small chance we get him.

I don't mind it if there's a guy we like. QB is the most important position, so it doesn't hurt to hedge your bets.

i heard an interview with spielman this morning and he said that was when they started looking at getting back in the first round but he was pretty adamant about not saying who they were thinking of taking

Browns had the #26 pick to offer, we had the #40. It would have taken a lot of extra picks to make up that difference.

speaking of rick, i love the mindset he has for the draft

listen to the experts around him (zimmer, norv, etc) about what they want and who they are looking for and then go to a spot to get them

I didn't like the Barr pick, but that was at least partially because I wanted Bridgewater. Now that we have Bridgewater anyway, I'm not sure who I would have picked. Maybe Aaron Donald, maybe I would looked to trade down farther, but Barr doesn't feel like the disaster it felt like at the beginning of the night.

Barr was the most productive defensive player in football statistically, wasn't he? And that's after only 2 years playing on that side of the ball? Seems like a super-high upside pick.

The issue to me is that he seems like a 3-4 linebacker, but if we can find a way to utilize his pass rushing skills it will be a good pick.

Mike Zimmer likes blitzing linebackers, Anthony Barr was easily one of the top pass rushing linebackers in the draft, that's also something the Vikings have sorely lacked in recent years, those kind of guys arent very common. He'll probably come in on passing situations and third downs in his rookie year, he'll probably still need some time to develop his skills further before he plays full time.

Yeah, I don't hate the Barr pick, because he does seem really talented (and of course because it didn't cost them Bridgewater), but he wouldn't have been my top choice due to his lack of experience and his fit with the defense. I suppose that if I had my druthers, and we somehow knew that Bridgewater would last to 32, I would have preferred dropping down again from #9, gotten some extra picks, and picking up Mosley or maybe Shazier in the teens.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

The way Zimmer was gushing over him in the presser made me feel much better about Barr.

Bridgewater at 32 >>>>>>> Bridgewater at 8

i read an article about a guy with similar feelings, he didn't have anything against barr - he didn't like how the situation played out. he was hoping for a top qb so pretty much anything other than that would have been a let down.
