We can all quibble about Randy's lack of in game adjustments and general bad feel for the momentum of games...

But in between games like Friday's and tonight's is where big time coaches step up... Not just in terms of X's and O's, but also in terms of understanding a team's psyche and doing something to flip some switches.

Apart from the Pacers D and the sham officiating, the Wiz seemed to be an overly tight bunch on Friday. Thinking too much, getting out of the flow.

Happens in every sport. Hockey players grip their sticks too tightly, baseball players overswing, strikers in soccer press and never seem to score.

Yesterday would have been a good day for some reverse psychology. Cancel practice for a team picnic, have a half court shot competition. Bob for apples... Doesn't matter.

This Wiz team works hard and will continue to do so... Right now, they've got to loosen up.

For a coach, it is a fine line. The great ones (Phil Jackson, Bruce Arena, Joe Gibbs) rarely get this part wrong.

Randy? He's the problem? Randy doesn't have the players to counter. That is, when Nene goes 3-14, doesn't rebound, turns it over, etc., Randy doesn't have enough depth.

But... it's always possible to win! Otherwise we wouldn't play these games. And, obviously, this is the critical game. Win it, and we've still got a series. Lose it, and our run is done.

So... lets win it!

That's when u bring in seraphin...

Agreed. Nene with Seraphin or Gooden amd Seraphin would totally be a different look.

I am assuming that you mean to be saying what I've bolded, right?

That Kevin Seraphin is the alternative is more or less what I mean. If you think bringing in one of the worst bigs in the NBA is a way to improve our situation... I don't know what to say, it's that ridiculous.

Right now our first choice for a big off the bench is a guy we were lucky enough to pick up on a 10 day and then keep. What more do you need to know about how thin we are than that? How about if Drew Gooden hadn't been around for the taking late in the season? Where would we be? We got lucky, but "lucky" doesn't imply smart.

Edit: meanwhile, for now lets forget all that stuff and win this game. Winning beats being smart!! :D

Seraphin came in against Chicago and made one positive play, ironically enough contesting for a rebound.

Energy and hopefully quickness to bother Hibbert into fouling is all Seraphin needs to bring. Atlanta kept Hibbert far away from the basket. I think Seraphin with Nene would open the lane for drives that they've taken from Gortat.

TP is taking and making a lot of 'bad shots'. Yes he is great at penetrating
and finishing in the paint, but the last couple games all he seems to need
is a little rub screen, then he can take and consistently make an 18-20 ft
shot. These are the shots many of us loathe. But the whole difference
is having a guy who can make them consistently.

Parker is getting way more attempts at the rim than Wall is. They said Pop specifically told him to stop passing when he has an open lane to the basket. Meanwhile Sam Cassell and Wittman are telling Wall to settle for midrange jumpers. That's coaching.

True. But as along as the refs are allowing Hibbert to body slam anyone
attacking the rim, without a hint of a whistle, I'm not sure what the alternative
really is. I wouldnt say Wall has had a lot of open lanes to the basket.

The Wizards need to go very small. Hibbert is fouling Gortat and Nene en mas. I believe having Harrington and Gooden heave threes would be more effective if officials let Roy be Godzilla.

I agree with you on the road wins. Hopefully, the last road loss was a rookie learning curve on how to close out playoff games. A lot of people were talking about getting playoff experience. That last road loss should be burned into John Walls brain now.

Get higher percentage shots to maintain the lead...Do not jack up shots without running the offense.

I hope Witt is staying with what got us into the playoffs. Our style of Wizards Basketball, fast and free flowing on offense and strong defense. We have to make the Pacers adjust to our fire power and not adjust our play to match the pacers slowed down half court game.

We must use strength theory...Focus on what we do best and manage our weakness. Witt better drive down their throats what we do best.

Lets get a win today Wizards!!!

Wizards really need Webster to step up off the bench. He could be a difference maker for us if we want to win.

I have zero confidence in Wittman. It's hero ball or bust for us.

.

Oh no.

The referees for tonight's crucial game 4 are (in reverse order of seniority):

1. Derrick Stafford
2. Bill Spooner

3. JOEY CRAWFORD

The same Joey Crawford who kicked Duncan out of the game while Duncan was on the bench, laughing to himself. The same Joey Crawford who almost threw out the mop boy at a game. The same Joey Crawford who knocked Damon Jones out of bounds and called a foul on Chauncey Billups for it.

The same Joey Crawford who, in this playoff season, personally iced Kevin Durant at the FT line with the game in the balance.

Yes, THAT Joey Crawford is refereeing tonight.

Pacers 3 - Wizards 1

The Wizards are gonna definitely need to bring the effort they brought in that Bulls series. Especially on defense, this Pacers team is prone to turn the ball over and those turnovers will sure enough get the pace of the game going in our favor.

He can't do worse than nene is right now who has a total of 14 rebounds in 3 games...
he's strong enough to bang
he can hit that midrange shot indy gives us with ease...and indy bigs play 1 on 1...One thing we kno about seraphin is he can score as long as he isn't doubled...
he's also fresh legs for a worn out nene...

Maybe to the league, forcing an incompetent and wildly erratic veteran ref like Crawford to retire would be to tacitly admit that they had an incompetent and wildly erratic veteran ref.

PS: Since he calls phantom fouls all the time anyway, they might as well put some end-of-the-benchers like Seraphin in to just run him over. "They're trying to hurt me, me."

He's a HUGE wild card.

I could easily see him try to appease the crowd to the detriment of IND if the Wiz grab momentum early and often

But with our luck, he'll make phantom calls and the Verizon Center will erupt in the loud chorus of boos

With no draft to distract me, tonight I'm strapping in for a #SoWizards moment for the ages when we get embarrassed again at home.

That's BS. Wall is playing scared, stop making excuses

Maybe he changes it tonight, but so far he's been playing scared in this postseason.

he's a bit tentative and nervous/anxious. Scared is a little too pejorative for my tastes.

If I'm making excuses you're making it sound like it's easy/simple. It ain't. If it were, it
wouldn't be special and no one would watch/care. I think we agree. He needs to attack
more. But I'd have to concede that he hasn't been uniformly successful when he's tried that.

Ball movement, player movement, execution, taking care of the ball. We turned it over

asked by our offense to do more than is reasonable.
