If Packers only keep Jordy or Cobb, who do you want to stay?

Post#1 » by LarryHarris » Mon May 12, 2014 5:02 pm

The Packers drafted 3 WRs this year. Some people looked at that as a sign that Jordy or Cobb will not be back. I am hoping they can resign both, but if they can only keep one, who do you want and why?

Cobb primarily because of age.

Cobb, but it's a tough choice.

Very good question, it is pretty close to a toss-up for me. Very slight edge to Cobb due to age.

Jordy. Bigger, stronger, less likely to get hurt and play out his contract. Quite frankly, a bigger playmaker than Cobb. Cobb needs intermediate type routes to take to the house. Meanwhile, Jordy is taking 70 yard bombs to the house. You need to take advantage of the arm strength of Rodgers.

I love Cobb because he's young, but I don't feel he is necessary for this offense to be elite. I see Jordy, the down field threat, ala GJ, a more vital role for this offense.

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens with these two. Maybe extend one now and tag one after the season, depending on how the rookies/Boykin do. I don't really know what TT is thinking.

Whoever comes cheapest (but I voted Cobb).

Cobb. He's five years younger.

I LOVE Jordy. I want him back. I hope we can make it happen.

Cobb because of two things:

1) Age (29 vs. 23)

2) The increased value of a dynamic slot receiver in high powered passing offenses.

I voted for Cobb strictly because I love his versatility of lining up in the backfield. I just think players like him are much more rare (they are also probably more injury prone, See Harvin, Percy).

I didn't realize the age difference was so great. Another mark for Cobb.

All this said, I love Jordy too and I hope what we do what we can to keep both.

Cobb. However, please sign both Ted. This is one of the few positions where we continue to have elite talent across the board.

I'll take Jordy for three reasons:

1) Likely cheaper due to age.
2) Unreal chemistry with Rodgers.
3) I think we could get a 1st for Cobb in a trade.

Personally, I offer them both the same contract (the range of 4 years/24 mil to 6 years 36 mil). First to take it stays, the other one is traded for a 2015 1st (or at worse) 2nd round pick. Let them know that the offer will be rescinded as soon as the other accepts. This will get one of them to sign quickly.

I prefer to keep Jordy because Cobb could be worth a 1st in a trade, while Jordy nets at best a 2nd. However, if it comes down to UFA and Cobb/Jordy are both asking for the same amount of money, excluding a trade, I keep Cobb.

The chance of the negotiation going down this way is less than 0.

I don't think we're getting a 1st for Cobb in a trade. No pending FA is worth that. We might be lucky enough to get a mid round pick.

Kind of reminds me of the old 'Prisoner's Dilemma' situation. But yeah, that won't happen. TT is too calculated for that.

I love both. But TT has a reluctance to give big contracts to players age 30+. The handwriting is on the wall. TT will be drafting a WR in 2nd rd again next year.

Bingo.

I would imagine CLE would be a great target to try to drop Cobb on during training camp, assuming Gordon gets suspended for the year. OAK would be a great spot as well.

Cobb has had enough injury issues to question giving the dude a ton of money - just doesn't seem like those smaller receivers hold up nearly as well long term as a guy like Jordy. For those worrying about age - Jordy is younger than Rodgers, and will likely play just as long. All I care about is what helps us win over the next 5 years while our team's in our prime, and for that I'll take Jordy.

No way I trade either guy before the season. We need both if we are going to contend this year.
