Henderson+Neal+Det 2015 first+Two 2nds for Smith+8th

John Salmons and Landry Fields

Jeff Green for Smith

Salmons and Hansborogh

Chuck Hayes and Landry Fields

Josh Smith and S&T Monroe for Iggy and D Lee

Bargnani straight up

deron williams, plumlee and the rights to bojan bogdanovic for smith and filler

No to mostly all these trade scenario's, especially D.Will for Smith/Jennings and Bargs straight up. We get robbed in your #8, Smith for #24, #45, Hendo trade idea too. Green for Smith is a good idea but the Celtics need to give us more.

Would trade Salmons & Hansbrough to Detroit for future considerations and Harrellson.
Toronto would cut Harrelson and Detroit has 2 options obvious exercise option on Salmons $1 million buyout either keep Hansbrough 3.2 million for one year or keep him.

Future consideration would be Toronto taking Jenning's but not until Toronto resigned Lowry. Jenning would make a good 6th man back up PG. Detrot could sign Ennis or Parker if he slips and Nelson likely released by Orlando as starter.

No

What would you propose for Smith?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

If we could turn Smith into an expiring AND an asset I'd be pretty happy.

Personally I'd be inclined to just throw all our cap space at Hayward and see if Utah match.

Would only take 3 days to find out!

And has anyone thought what we could net in a trade for #8?

We'll have enough cap space to absorb a fairly large contract...would Orlando give up Afflalo for #8?

Here's a couple off the top of my head:

Smith+8 for Green+5+Asik(three-team trade)
Smith+8 for Faried+Chandler
Smith for Markieff Morris+Green(three-team trade)

I've always been willing to trade our pick for proven talent. I think #8 for Afflalo would be a good pick-up. I even proposed #8 for CJ McCollum a couple of weeks ago.

A couple of IFs to consider...
If we get any asset for Smith AND we retain our Pick... then signing him worked out ok.
He definitely contributed to our 8th pick :^)

8th pick for Afflalo is not possible under the CBA since we have no cap space.

You have to send players back to Orlando. Jennings is the only one that realy works.

Jennings+8 for AA? Ok now you have 8 mil in cap space and no PG.

Pistons have like $42k in committed salary next season. They have plenty of cap space.

Next season salary doesnt come in to effect untill July 10th. Untill then you are working off the current yr.

We can't make trades until July or so anyways, so whats the point?

Don't know why we would be targeting Afflalo in a trade. Are we contending next year? If not, then we should just target younger/cheaper assets and try to find if we have anything in KCP.

I think KCP could learn alot from Afflalo.

The draft is in June. Unless your talking about trading a 2017 pick. Of course since we cant trade our pick anyway we would have to draft for Orlando. Your still useing up most of your cap space on Afflalo. That would give the Pistons about 4 mil to fill out the roster.

I guess my question is simply this: is Affalo the missing piece to get us to the 2nd rd of the playoffs?

There isn't really that much left to fill which can be easily done via NBADL players and rookies like Harrelson etc etc.

The premise is to field and develop a team for the Future. I would like to see Afflalo even stay in Orlando but I can also see that he would be the perfect fit in Detroit as a starter who plays both SG and SF while a great mentor for KCP being Afflalo is an intense competitor who works very hard on his game during off season.

Warspite:

I proposed the #8 for Afflalo deal assuming people who understood the cap would realise it couldn't be done until mid July. My bad for not stating it though.

Is Afflalo the piece that gets us to the 2nd round? Not on his own! We need a good coach too

The main appeal in harkless for me is his defense and ability to space the court. harris could be a good fit next to drummond due to his offensive ability, but there's really no spot for him on the roster with moose and smith.

True. Your idea sounds good to me.

I thought Harris played the 3 in Orlando.

He's another tweener AKA a face-up 4 in today's nba.

Why would ORL do this?

Return to Detroit Pistons
