Archie Goodwin arrested in Arkansas...
Ugh.
Bad start to his offseason - he needs to keep his head on straight and stay on the court practicing that jumpshot, none of this young and immature stuff.
http://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/n ... s/9042867/
It doesn't seem too serious, but it'll be interesting what sort of punishment ie verbal or team enforced he gets...

Ah his youth is showing. It's the "being a millionaire at the age of 19" syndrome.
Like you said, doesn't seem that serious. I hope he learns from it & spends more time at basketball gyms than ice skating rinks going forward this summer.

I don't think it's serious...
In australia, I've never seen anyone get hand cuffed for having an argument or swearing at someone.
Usually police would just tell the person to calm down and go home.
I know my friends and I was stopped by police once, while we were walking to a party and we were loud.
They gave us a lift at the back of the police van instead and dropped us off at the party... Which was fortunately not "wild" or out of control.

This is either Archie being an idiot, the officer doing some unethical profiling, or a combination of both. I've seen plenty of people do the behavior described right around police here in the US and not get cuffed or even spoken to. Hell, I know some current and retired police officers who curse in public. So yeah, I don't even know if I'd rule out some kind of profiling, whether it be on age, ethnicity, flashy clothing, officer recognizing an NBA player, etc. But either way, he just needs to keep his head on straight and realize that the spotlight is on you as a pro athlete, right or wrong as it may be.

Re: Archie Goodwin arrested in Arkansas...
This is obviously disappointing, but I'm not too concerned about it. He's 19 and still needs to grow up a little, but most people are the same way at that age and they don't have that much money or play in the NBA. If I remember from his introductory press conference, he's got a good home support system and I'm sure they'll talk to him. Also, I'm positive McDonough and Hornacek have already discussed the manner. I don't foresee any other issues going forward. And, of course, if this is the worst thing he ever does, he's still a Saint compared to a large number of professional sports players. Remember shortly after we drafted Amare what the headlines read? I still believe Archie is a good kid and he was just at the wrong place, at the wrong time and let his emotions get the best of him.
On a similar note, this is another good reason the Suns now have full control of their D-League team. If they feel they need to send Archie (or any other player) down until they're mature enough to play in the NBA, they know he'll be monitored by Suns' personnel and taught the Suns brand of basketball.
Update: Archie just posted this....

So tired of hearing this excuse. Not EVERYTHING is racially motivated. It's a lazy and old excuse to get out of trouble. Just accept what you did and take ownership of it.
Under your argument, if Archie would have apologized and stopped he still would have been arrested?

I wouldn't say that I'm arguing in favor of this being racial profiling at all. I'm more going on the premise that this sounds like it's going to boil down to the subjective nature of law enforcement. Archie absolutely may have been treated differently than I would have (nondescript guy with no fame or flashy anything). He also may NOT have been treated differently, we just don't know because I wasn't there arguing with someone. And if he WAS treated differently, then it could have been because he was recognized as being famous, because he was wearing $2,000 worth of clothes (I don't know if he was, I'm just making my point), because of ethnicity, or because of any number of other factors. It's the same idea as some officers being more likely to pull over a Ferrari doing 90 mph than a Buick doing the same speed on the same road.
And no, under my argument, which is really just more of a devil's advocate questioning whether we will ever know the full story, if he was being disorderly and resisting and then stopped, the arrest may well have not happened. So if he was truly out of line, then shame on him and this absolutely is his fault.

And some things ARE racially motivated whether you like to hear it or not. The guy was making a point that other variables could have been involved; doesn't mean that was the case, but to get all indignant because the obvious was presented is ridiculous!! Yes black people get profiled....... see Donald Sterling. Yes Archie should know this and never subject himself to the possibility of a racist police officer to throwing him in jail for some bull!

Re: Archie Goodwin arrested in Arkansas...
Young rich black kid outside a ice skating rink in Arkansas arrested for swearing in public.
LMAO. Thats comical. Honestly i swear all the time. I am real good at holding my tongue when around kids (12 & Under) and old people (55+), but if i was in a public parking lot at 11pm at night and a police officer asked me to quit cursing i would tell him to f**k off.
I hate that "curse words" have a stigmata about them. Who decided that s**t is bad yet crap and poop is acceptable, even though they mean the same damn thing? Its stupid. Its freedom of speech. If i feel that using these so called "curse words" express myself or my point better than a different word, who is a public official to say otherwise? Is it against the law to curse? No.
I have been to Akansas a few times and race is a big deal down there. Specially with the police. Hell, here in AZ police are racist. My next door neighbor is a cop (and also happens to be black), and he talks to me all the time about how racist the police are (even to him at times). I mean it goes above their "Blue Shield Brotherhood".
You can even watch Cops (the TV show) and see first hand how different white subjects are treated than black subjects. Recently i downloaded the last 5 seasons of Cops (honestly i dont know why) and was amazed at the difference in treatment i saw. Watching 8 episodes in a row made it really stand out.
Ok, i know that i kind of got a bit sidetracked on the whole race issue and i probably shouldnt have, but honestly im OK with Goodwin. Out of all the things in the world to get arrested for, cursing in a public parking lot aint s**t. As for "resisting arrest", that can be anything. The office could have yanked his arm up and behind his back (chicken wing) and Archie shifted to lessen the pain. It hurts. Its happened to me before, but i wasnt charged with resisting arrest, the cop just started yelling, "Quit Resisting" repeatedly. He said he could add a resisting charge but wouldnt.
Moral of the story: When dealing with the Police, you will always lose. In the end, it comes down to your word against theirs, and even if they do have blemishes on thier police record and yours is clean, their word is worth 10x's yours.

Re: Archie Goodwin arrested in Arkansas...
yeah... cops definitely have upper hand unless videotaped from far away unaware... in which you can use it in court.. but worst case the cops would probably just get a slap on the wrist.
Cops are indeed important in society and they put themselves in dangerous situations every day so they have an excuse to be less tolerant... but being less tolerant and being on a power trip... its a blurred line to them.
best case is just to AVOID being in a situation with cops at all times... you never know.. you could be targetted as an escape goat for some corrupt cops and it can ruin you or even harm you..... they have the power.. so just avoid any disadvantageous situations with them.

It's even more ridiculous to act like racial profiling DOESN'T happen. Look at the stats, look at the structures of our judicial system.

Not that any of us know Archie personally but I don't think this is something we are going to see out of him again in the future. He's 19 years old. Nothing to worry about. Maybe he did do something wrong.. oh well. Nothing big. He's young. He'll learn.
He is not Michael Beasley. lol

The person that many of us compare him to is Lance Stephenson and look at all the immature issues that he had early in his career.
Like I said, things like this will happen. It just goes with that age and youth. He's just gotta learn from it.

Lance Stephenson gives out an impression of an arrogant and immature person...
Archie got arrested for far less than what most people have done...
At the end of the day.. Teenagers do what teenagers do... He will learn. I don't doubt McD or Hornacek got in touch with him to find out what's up and maybe a word or two.

Re: Archie Goodwin arrested in Arkansas...
This is such a weird story. Archie basically gets arrested for screaming at someone. There are obviously things that happened that no one knows about yet other than the people involved. You can speculate a million different things but until the real details come out, it is anyone's guess as to what provoked the situation.
With Archie being back in his hometown, it can definitely be assumed that everyone there knows who he is and what kind of money he is making. To still be a teenager and suddenly become a millionaire is something very few people in the world can relate to. Archie is only a 19 year old kid and was probably just hanging out at a skating rink, but because of his profession, he is now a potential target of other people's jealousy, which can unfortunately instigate things like this.
As far as how serious the situation is, so far there have been no talks of alcohol, drugs, or actual fighting. Only that Archie was cursing and making aggressive gestures towards another person. When you look at his mugshot, it appears that he was injured himself on his head near his left eye. Whether that happened while he was resisting arrest, or from another person hitting him, or from a different situation altogether, we may never know. Overall, like many other fans, I am disappointed this happened, but I am in no way going to rush to judgement on Archie. I want to know all the facts before I am comfortable enough to draw an opinion.

No fights happened, and Archie was swearing in public. So how, may I ask, did he get a wound on his head?
Was he "resisting arrest," or trying to defend himself from police brutality, which we all know happens everywhere.
This story sounds very fishy to me. Anyway, Archie is young, and seems very mature and focused, and he got arrested for "swearing."

And no, hes not a Lance Stephenson. He didnt push his pregnant girlfriend down the stairs.
