Re: Jamerr nelson
He was on the radio earlier today and said Stan was the best coach he ever played for. I didn;t know he was going to be a FA. Now that I know it makes me think he was buttering up Stan because maybe he wanted to come to Detroit. I could see Stan trading Jennings and signing Nelson to be his PG.
I don't really like Nelson but I'll trust Stan's vision if he thinks he's the guy he needs to run his offense.

Re: Jamerr nelson
Jameer would be coming here as a back-up to push Jennings if anything at this stage of things. Don't see any team bringing him in as their starter - and he could see Detroit as his best opportunity to win the starting job away from incumbent.
Jennings then moved to bench as 6th man/selfish offense type of scorer.

Re: Jamerr nelson
I'd definitely take Nelson as our backup PG. His playmaking seems to have improved the past few years, and he's a good 3 point shooter. If we could get him cheap (3-4mil per year for a couple years) I'd be very happy with him as a backup.
EDIT: I might even take him as our starter if he runs the offense better than Jennings.

Smart hasn't even played a game in the NBA. Saying he's better than established NBA PGs is pretty ridiculous. For all you know he could be this drafts 'Thomas Robinson' when he gets to the league.

Jennings will never be able to defend the pg position properly
Jameer Nelson is Jennings ceiling and he's older, he also makes questionable decisions
Smarts has a nba ready game, needs to work on his shooting and decision making, but can is a good defender, has good size for NBA pg , and can score in the post and drives.
I see it as
Try to continue to mold jennings who physically can't defend
Sign a decent but not great pg in Nelson who is 32 years old
Try to mold a player in smart who's can contribute now, and has higher upside than both
or
Sign nelson as vet pg, regulate jennings to 6th man role and have smart come off the bench for either position. i would not mind nelson mentoring smart

I thought you were saying Smart was better than both. If you were just saying you prefer Smart over both, my bad.

I'd like nelson as a back up PG.
He's definitely a better option than bynum.

Agreed. Nelson would probably steal the starting job from Jennings in training camp.

This and you get an And1. People here are losing it if they think Nelson is coming here and starting over Jennings.

Re: Jameer Nelson
No thank you. I didn't even know Jameer was still in the NBA. I imagine he's even shorter and fatter now. He's several years older since he played for SVG and he wasn't even a good PG when he did. Go young or ride out Jennings' deal. We're already paying Bynum, and we have Siva farther down the bench. If we're bringing in another PG let's bring in somebody who is significantly better than anyone we have now or has far more potential. I have no interest in a washed up back up PG. This is not Orlando. We aren't going to be the Howard-Magic reincarnate. SVG is great at adjusting his system to fit the players he has, let's let him do that.

I do not think any point guard in the NBA could be worse that Brandon Jennings with the exception of Raymond Felton. Brandon Jennings is a born loser and seems to get joy or a sense of worth out of being a rebel. He is horrible on defense and makes poor decisions on offense. His numbers are drastically higher than they would be because he stat pads. His decisions on the court are not made to win, but to make himself look good.

Re: Jameer Nelson
If SVG is true to his word "I first want to make sure a player can defend at his position"... then the answer is NO to Nelson.
However if he opts in I would gladly trade Jennings for his expiring (like Motownmadness said).

Re: Jameer Nelson
Sad day in Pistons history to consider an aging Jameer Nelson over our regular starting point guard.
That being said, I'd rather explore elsewhere. I like Siva being that backup PG and I still hold onto a sliver of hope that Jennings may be salvageable.

Re: Jameer Nelson
Speaking of Jameer, its possible we already have a similar player on the roster in Siva that SVG could just look to develop like he did with Jameer, instead of having to sign Nelson himself.

Re: Jameer Nelson
Jameer wouldn't be bad, but I think we need to get D Collison, he's the best available backup pg who could push Jenning and he's consistent, I still think we should develop Siva though, he can at least be a great 3rd pg in the league. Trade Bynum to LA for next yrs 2nd rd pick.
