No it's not. You could argue the quality of draft prospects all day long but it's never a good idea to draft strictly for need in the first round, or even the earlier rounds. If you do that, more often than not, you'll end up drafting a player that's not as good as another that's available and you'll end up with a lot of good players that result in just a good, not great team. ICLO, that's what HHCD will be, a good player that you're happy with but won't be a superstar or a pro-bowler most years. With Fuller, Cliff Levingston thinks we've got a chance to have one of the best all-around corners in football very soon. And besides, corners are more important than safeties. Against Green Bay and Detroit, we'll be playing nickel at least 75% of the time.

easier to find safties too down in the draft. When you have a shot at a top corner, you take it. Finding Richard Sherman down low is not gonna happen.

That too, even though this draft was supposed to be thin at safety. Vereen appears to be a nice free safety prospect with some good cover skills and the ability to play nickel. Cliff Levingston will take that in concert with the top CB rather than getting a good safety in Pryor or HHCD and a mediocre CB prospect in the 3rd or 4th.

In other news, Fuller has signed a deal. That's awfully quick, and great. Can't wait to see this kid play.

yeah sure. I wasn't even thinking about the safety drafted this year. If you have to wait until next year to draft your safety then oh well you can still get a top one next year in the first 2 rounds. But if you waited a year to get your CB, no guarantee you can get a top one like you just got with Fuller..

The Bears are going to have a patchwork at safety this year. Its worth it. And they should play better just because there is a pass rush

They also just finished signing Sutton, which means all our draft picks are signed.

I'm wondering if the reason they signed all the picks quickly is too see if they would have room to trade for a vet safety?

The Bears' FO has been great about getting their picks signed quickly, even going back to Angelo.

That's true. They do have one of the best cap guys in the business.
