Chris Paul's Game 6

Post#1 » by IDBall » Thu May 15, 2014 2:48 pm

After the debacle of Game 5 (Mainly, CP3's choking if we're calling it was it really is), CP3 is at a crossroads in his career. He has a solid team, a solid coach, and a chance to finally make it to the conference finals. It'll require great effort from him, perhaps something like this

Can he put together a performances for the ages and lead his team to his first Conference Finals? Or will this be the day when his excuses finally run out, and we remember him for the Game 5 ending?

People really need to stop expecting a LeBron James in Game 6 of Celtics series in 2012 performance from players. That's one of the greatest Playoff single game performances of all time, maybe THE greatest.

I have to agree with this. Especially with Lebron on the road... that performance literally sucked the air out of every fan rooting against him. I've never seen anything like it

I'd look for Jamal Crawford to have a good game and Blake is pretty consistently good now. Crawford's performance tilts the series either way.

Greatest of the last few years. Dirk did something equal or greater in the playoffs just the year before. Didn't he have 40 some points on 12 shots or something? Also MJ had a ton, Magic had his starting at center game, every Shaq game in his prime was damn near as impressive lol, Isaiah had his 25 in a quarter on a bad ankle... I mean there's games that make Lebron's pale in comparison. Even Lebron has had better games, like against the Pistons in 07.

CP will probably be a maniac in game 6, but he's only 6 feet tall. He can't do some of the things the other guys can do, like grab multiple key rebounds in traffic. But I expect he'll do as well as a guy in his body can do.

I'm thinking that OKC is going to win in 7, but it certainly would build to the narrative with the season the Clips have had if they turn out to win this series.

I also agree that people need to stop expecting a LBJ game 6 (which might not even be his best PO game, especially factoring the narrative, although there was one against DET in '07).

From what I could see, they relied on the hot hand of Crawford too much, and don't think Blake got enough touches down the stretch. You want him to get more comfortable in those situations, why not run plays for him. He was doing a number on OKC from mid-range during stretches of the game...

Not trying to derail the thread but not much compares to LeBron's Game 6. You can't compare anything Dirk does to LeBron....not even in the same galaxy as far as pressure or scrutiny. To single handedly destroy a team the way he did with the pressure that was placed upon him is beyond compare. You may never see any other athlete face the same type of pressure he was under that night.

Maybe. But the pressure factor makes the Celtics one more impressive, imo.

You have to factor in the pressure. It cannot go unnoticed. It's the main thing that makes LeBron's Game 6 absolutely incredible.

Maybe the comparison to LeBron's game 6 was a bit of hyperbole, but the circumstances do have similarities based in the fact that LeBron was facing enormous pressure in a career defining game. Prior to that game, there were talks of Spoelstra being fired, breaking up the big 3, etc.

Chris Paul doesn't have nearly the same pressure that LeBron did, but there's no doubt that another year of failing to get out of the 2nd round, especially when they basically had Game 5 locked up, is something that will be noted in CP3's career. I don't think anyone is expecting CP3 to get 45 points and 15 rebounds, only that he performs well in one of the most important games in his career. Had Carmelo Anthony been in the same circumstances as Paul, he would have been crucified, and rightly so.

37 points, 20 assist, 37/37 ft's

I don't think it will mean anything in his career if he loses that game. He is not the MVP. In front of him there is the MVP and KD is the one who has the biggest preassure.

Hold onto the ball and make good decisions down the stretch ....that should do it.

The pressure is always crazy on stars in the playoffs, and moreso in the Finals. You don't think any other stars have faced the same pressure as Lebron? What about Jordan, who was much more famous that Lebron? Or Magic after his Tragic year? Dirk was under tremendous pressure after winning MVP and leading his #1 to a first round defeat. All these guys face pressure. Lebron more so than most, but it's not like the other guys have never felt overwhelming pressure and been able to perform. What about Jordan when he had the flu? Lebron's game 6 is one for the ages, but there's a lot of competition for best playoff game ever. Maybe best playoff game by a Heat player ever, but even he has comp from Wade. Wade brought that team back from down 13 in the 4th, in an 0-2 hole in the FINALS. Now THAT'S pressure.

If Clippers lose in 7 I don't think Paul has too much to be disgraced about. Just get hca for next year.

I think it's laughable that people think Chris Paul's going to come out and have some type of legendary performance tonight

Is it possible he has a good/great game? Of course. But he's not some dominating force to where he's going to come out and just destroy the Thunder just because he is disappointed about how the previous game ended. He's not LeBron, Kobe or Durant.

CP3 is a career choker. I don't care how many people come respond to me saying stats prove otherwise. Whenever it's come down to the biggest moments in his career he's choked.

You don't have to go 1-8 in crunch time to be a choker, you can also turn the ball over, foul and miss FT. Lebron is not clutch but he's no where near the choker CP3 is.

LeBron's Celtics game has gotten overrated. Greatest playoff moment ever my ass.
