Getting arrested doesn't just happen... Archie had a choice. He chose the situation -- place, time, people. He chose his reaction to the situation. His choices resulted in HIS arrest.
Pretty straightforward and youth is no excuse.
The question is what will Archie do next? He is a free and grown man. He can chose to separate himself from bad people and negative influences.
I hope he learns from this digression and better understands that his decisions will always have consequences. Let's hope they are positive consequences -- like an improved jump shot.
This will be a BIG character test for Archie. Time will tell.

LMAO. Thats comical. Honestly i swear all the time. I am real good at holding my tongue when around kids (12 & Under) and old people (55+), but if i was in a public parking lot at 11pm at night and a police officer asked me to quit cursing i would tell him to f**k off.
I hate that "curse words" have a stigmata about them. Who decided that s**t is bad yet crap and poop is acceptable, even though they mean the same damn thing? Its stupid. Its freedom of speech. If i feel that using these so called "curse words" express myself or my point better than a different word, who is a public official to say otherwise? Is it against the law to curse? No.
I have been to Akansas a few times and race is a big deal down there. Specially with the police. Hell, here in AZ police are racist. My next door neighbor is a cop (and also happens to be black), and he talks to me all the time about how racist the police are (even to him at times). I mean it goes above their "Blue Shield Brotherhood".
You can even watch Cops (the TV show) and see first hand how different white subjects are treated than black subjects. Recently i downloaded the last 5 seasons of Cops (honestly i dont know why) and was amazed at the difference in treatment i saw. Watching 8 episodes in a row made it really stand out.
Ok, i know that i kind of got a bit sidetracked on the whole race issue and i probably shouldnt have, but honestly im OK with Goodwin. Out of all the things in the world to get arrested for, cursing in a public parking lot aint s**t. As for "resisting arrest", that can be anything. The office could have yanked his arm up and behind his back (chicken wing) and Archie shifted to lessen the pain. It hurts. Its happened to me before, but i wasnt charged with resisting arrest, the cop just started yelling, "Quit Resisting" repeatedly. He said he could add a resisting charge but wouldnt.
Moral of the story: When dealing with the Police, you will always lose. In the end, it comes down to your word against theirs, and even if they do have blemishes on thier police record and yours is clean, their word is worth 10x's yours.

Cops are indeed important in society and they put themselves in dangerous situations every day so they have an excuse to be less tolerant... but being less tolerant and being on a power trip... its a blurred line to them.
best case is just to AVOID being in a situation with cops at all times... you never know.. you could be targetted as an escape goat for some corrupt cops and it can ruin you or even harm you..... they have the power.. so just avoid any disadvantageous situations with them.
NapoleonII wrote:It's even more ridiculous to act like racial profiling DOESN'T happen. Look at the stats, look at the structures of our judicial system.
I don't think police should be less tolerant because they are put in dangerous situations. What I do believe is they are deserving of our respect. At least that's what my parents taught me. You know, yes sir, no sir, and thank you type of stuff that you would do with teachers, adults, and others. Police are here to help us. If you put yourself in their shoes and someone was telling you to f*ck off what would you do? These men and women put their lives on the line every day (many are ex-military) and are trained to deal with difficult situations. They have been shot and killed making simple traffic stops. How many died just trying to help people on Sept 11, 2001. Why would I want to provoke them?
In my encounters with law enforcement (traffic stops) I always addressed them as sir, I always acknowledge to them what I did wrong (e.g., speeding), and I've always been given a warning instead of a ticket. I'm guess it really depends on your upbringing and how your parents taught you to think about police. Is there such a thing as occupational profiling ... that cop/man is always out to get you so don't give him any respect and doing anything possible to make his job protecting the public harder. I guess that is discrimination based on the color blue.

PS... and cursing in public is low brow behavior. But, its also a generation thing. Punks these days see no problem with gutter mouthing any time any where.... and good luck with the 'f**k off' routine to a cop

What ? Me Worry ?

Nice post.letsgosuns wrote:This is such a weird story. Archie basically gets arrested for screaming at someone. There are obviously things that happened that no one knows about yet other than the people involved. You can speculate a million different things but until the real details come out, it is anyone's guess as to what provoked the situation.
With Archie being back in his hometown, it can definitely be assumed that everyone there knows who he is and what kind of money he is making. To still be a teenager and suddenly become a millionaire is something very few people in the world can relate to. Archie is only a 19 year old kid and was probably just hanging out at a skating rink, but because of his profession, he is now a potential target of other people's jealousy, which can unfortunately instigate things like this.
As far as how serious the situation is, so far there have been no talks of alcohol, drugs, or actual fighting. Only that Archie was cursing and making aggressive gestures towards another person. When you look at his mugshot, it appears that he was injured himself on his head near his left eye. Whether that happened while he was resisting arrest, or from another person hitting him, or from a different situation altogether, we may never know. Overall, like many other fans, I am disappointed this happened, but I am in no way going to rush to judgement on Archie. I want to know all the facts before I am comfortable enough to draw an opinion.

Re: Archie Goodwin arrested in Arkansas...
Has Archie ever been arrested before or had previous issues with the law? I've never read of any problems, but I don't follow Archie very closely.
If this is a one time, first time issue then I have absolutely no problem with it. But if there have been issues before then I will begin to have a little concern.
If Archie is hanging around negative influences it is 100% on him to correct that situation.

That's some decent swelling. I'd imagine there would be more talk of police brutality if that's what actually happened.

After seeing the look on his face, my heart really goes out to the kid. He looks devastated and realizes the gravity of the situation. But from hearing him speak he seems smart and I think has his head on straight. He'll be fine.

Re: Archie Goodwin arrested in Arkansas...
Let's get the full story. This is out of character for him.
Sounds like someone might have been disrespecting him or someone he was with, Archie voiced his displeasure, an officer only saw one side of the situation and either over-reacted or blatantly took the opportunity to throw around his authority.
Either way, let's get him back to Phoenix quick so he can hang with our guys as most of our team seems to stay out of trouble.

Goodwin has spent nearly all of his offseason doing daily workouts at US Airways Center. He had gone home that week while a new practice court was being installed at the arena.

Re: Archie Goodwin arrested in Arkansas...
1. The charges against Goodwin were bogus in a way to start with. The judge obviously realised that it's such a minor case that no more man hours should be spent on it.
If I swore at someone and the cops tried to arrest me after warning me to stop swearing I would be hesitant to be arrested too, in Australia... Our police officers aren't as strict as America obviously.
2. Goodwin working out a lot is one reason why Suns FO and his fans are high on him.
