06-07 West Conference 1st round -> http://espn.go.com/nba/team/schedule/_/ ... -mavericks
The 67-15 Dallas Mavericks lost in 6 games to the 42-40 Golden State Warriors. The Mavericks lost by 12 points in game at their home court. The Warriors capped off their series win with a 25 point win in Oakland.Usual Suspects wrote:- You don't get to go to the brink of elimination by a below .500 team playing without their best player and be respected and given the benefit of the doubt.
The Celtics did it when they went to 7 games against a 37-45 Hawks team -> http://espn.go.com/nba/team/schedule/_/ ... on-celticsUsual Suspects wrote:- You don't get to have your entire team be out-rebounded by one man (until he was taken out) and be respected and given the benefit of the doubt.

Nikola Vucevic recorded 29 rebounds in a game against the Heat. The Heat recorded 33 rebounds as a team.
Vucevic played 46 minutes in a game that went to OT (and thus was played for 53 minutes) so he was sitting for 6 minutes.
1. Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the mavericks considered the laughing stock of the NBA after that series. Dirk was absolutely ripped apart by every NBA writer and fan alike. So, I'm not sure what you're trying to say there. It seems like you're making my point in this one.
2. At what point were the Celtics in any real danger of losing that series. They were never down in that series, and won all their home games by an avg of over 25pts/gm, and were up 3-2, not down. Nonetheless, if you remember that year after they lost their first game against the Pistons in the ECF, many people expressed real doubt about them going further.
3. So, you're really going to compare a RS game played in December to argue my point. Come on man, I don't see how you don't understand how embarrassing it is for a 1 seed who is a great rebounding team to put forth that kind of terrible effort against a good but not great team at home in a closeout game. I mean do I really need to explain more on this.
If you want to nitpick my reasons go ahead, but make a real argument about why any fan (Pacer fan included) should give this team any benefit of the doubt based on their recent performance. Again, I'm not saying they're incapable of winning against the Heat, they definitely are capable. But I don't see why I should give them any leeway or benefit of the doubt as the guy I was replying to was asking for. From a fan's perspective, the Pacers are at an impasse, where it's "show me first".
I pointed out the examples I did in order to indicate that this wasn't something unprecented. It wasn't the first time that a #1 seed was close to get eliminated. It wasn't the first time that a #1 seed lost big in its home court in the playoffs. It has happened in the past and it will happen in the future.
That was the point of my post. I never said that you should give the Pacers the benefit of the doubt. I was simply indicating that something like this has happened in the past.
You have every right to not give the Pacers the benefit of the doubt. You have every right to consider them the underdogs. You have every right to demand to "show you first". In fact, that's exactly what I want you to do. That's exactly what I want the media to say. This Pacers team plays a lot better when it's considered the underdog.

I still think the Heat will go trough but it will be the most difficult series against Indiana. Now game 7 is away so the Heat have to start by stealing one in Indiana. Hope it's the 1st game.

In that case I have no problem with your post. The statement I made in my original post was in response to the Pacers' fan, who was perplexed as to why his team was being disrespected and not being given the benefit of the doubt. That's it. I have no problem if you have confidence in your team, heck I hope you do. But I was a bit taken aback by the idea that it's so preposterous to doubt this Pacers team, as the poster had suggested. That is all.

Knicks2DaHouse is not a Pacers fan. He's a Knicks fan that lives in Indiana and has watched several Pacer games.

Re: 2014 NBA EC Finals: IND (1) vs MIA (2)
Miami in 5.
Unless your a pacer fan I don't see how Indiana pulls it off or even makes it a long series.
The collapse at the end of the season. Near 1st round exit against a below 500 team. I will say the wizards are a pretty good team and they beat them in 6 so I do think the huge meltdown is over.
But they still aren't the mid season form pacers or last years ECF team.
Miami is going to cake walk this thing. I see competitive games but short series.

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.
Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

Judging by a lot of posts about these series, logic seems to be like: Pacers playoff record 8-5, have turned corner and are gonna make serious trouble for Heat. Heat record 8-1, aren't gonna play well against Pacers and haven't impressed anyone lately.
Go figure.
Go figure.

yeah there is the "we discredit everything Miami does Club" again...
its not like every Non-Heat fan before the Nets Series claimed the Nets would destroy the Heat... because they are the Worst Matchup....
and now that the Heat beat theire "worst matchup" quite handily in 5 everyone is like ...
"nah the Heat didnt play good against BKN,... BKN just sucks... old losers cant beat the Heat"
why is it so hard to just give both the Nets and the Heat some props?
the Nets did theire best and are a talented Veteran squad.. and the Heat responded well to theire challange...
so..
the Pacers are the underwhelming Team so far... they are very sporadic.. one game they look like the Title Team they could be... and the next game they look like a worse Charlotte Team...
this inconsistency will not cut it at all versus the Heat..
they need to play like they didnt for around 3 months... or they will drown..
and i hope they do... i want a fight...
how awfull would it be ... the Series everybodys been waiting for and the Pacers are mopped out of the playoffs....
no.. i dont want to see that
at least put up a fight

Heat in 5. MAYBE 6. Pacers are not playing consistent enough to win this series.

the heat will be fine when they can win this series between the pacers..they will get the 3peat..
idk why the heat always has the advantage against the west teams
or maybe they had the best player on the planet

Re: 2014 NBA EC Finals: IND (1) vs MIA (2)
I think the pacers biggest problem is that Hibbert has lost the mystique of being an elite defensive player over the last month or so. He hasn't been getting the benefit of the doubt with his verticality. Game one is going to say a lot about this series. If the heat go to Indy and attack the rim and you see Hibbert end up in foul trouble early, it could be a quick series. If the refs go back to the Hibbert never fouls anyone theory, the pacers are going to be a tough out. Teams like the pacers and bulls rely on officiating to be successful. It's not a bad thing, it just is what it is when you play such a physical style of defense. You need the refs to let you play in order to be effective

Yall are tripping if you think this will end in 4, 5, or 6. This has 7 games written all over it. The Pacers ALWAYS play the Heat well. They won't underestimate this opponent unlike what they've done up to this point.

There's no underestimating anyone. I want the Heat to sweep the Pacers. That would make me happy.
