I think the hawks should look closely into signing blatche! I could see him as our boris diaw.

Thoughts?

Love it!

Note to Danny Ferry, This is what a backup Center looks like:

At 6'11", 260 pounds, 10 years in the league, 27 years old and in his prime, he has the size & experience to be everything we need. Playing lots of minutes off the bench and even starting if the need arises.

Dump Brand, Dump Ayon.

Bring in Blatche and Bebe.

The more I think about it, the more I love us acquiring this kid. He could even be our starter going forward at Center. Man, I hope we get this guy and finally shore up the frontcourt. Here's how he compares to Brand as backup Center.

I'd welcome it, he was a bit of a headcase but he doesn't seem like it anymore. I'm sure being around Bud and this team culture should keep him in check (man, that feels good to say).

I agree with every one in this thread. Could be a big contributor that wouldn't cost much. I know he has a well rounded offensive game but does any one know much about his defensive game? I haven't really focused on his defense when watching him play with Bklyn.

I too don't get that odd Boris Diaw comparison, but the kid is solid. I was iffy on signing him when he was a free agent due to his well chronicled immaturity, but its been years now and now issue....maybe he grew up. I'm sure being away from a team that featured Gilbert Arenas helps there.

Defensively he reminds me of Mike Scott. Good at ball denial and on the post, face him up and he looks like he is standing on ice and his team d is iffy. But nothing too horrible that will cost you games.

Using so called 'Advanced Statistics', his defensive rating is comparable to Elton Brand's last season. He has the strength and savvy to be a really good post defender, but his lack of shot blocking is somewhat alarming for a player his size.

While I'd have no problem signing Blatche, we should understand the situation Blatche is in. Since Blatche was amnestied, a large portion of his salary has come from WASH for the past few seasons. Blatche took the ~$1.5M deal last season since he knew that no one would throw more at him than the $7+M that he was set to make anyway. His opting out of his PO is very interesting. He is already set to make $8.4M regardless of what happens - even if he sits at home - and I doubt that he or his agent genuinely think that he'll be getting significantly more. My guess is that they are either a) looking for a multi-year deal or b) looking to establish his worth by landing a starting gig somewhere. If he's looking for b), then we've got nothing - his agent probably wouldn't even let us talk to him. If he's looking for a) then I don't think he'd take a contract for $4M, especially at the onset of FA when we'd be looking to finalize our roster. My guess is that he'd be looking for MLE $$ at the very least, and probably more even more than that.

Again, I wouldn't mind the signing, but those looking at what BRK paid him last year and thinking his contract would be based off that are flat mistaken. His agent will look at the relation of that number to his actual salary akin to someone coming off a rookie contract - there just isn't any relation. My guess is that he's looking for a starting position, but if he can be bought, then it'll be the $$ you give in y2 and 3.

Very solid post. I forgot all about the amnesty situation.

Toot away, my friend. That's what Message Boards are for. Sharing in misery, sharing delight.... and rubbing it in when you are right.

Your forum searching skills are of an elite level :P

I believe he was not "CHEAP" because of the Amnesty provision that someone mentioned. He was being paid so much he was better off staying where he was at last year.

I like him, I am curious to see where he sees himself. He can clearly be a starter for some teams in this leage

Oh man if ONLY this happened:

Of course that depends if we draft Gorgui Dieng like the rumor mill is saying. If we draft him to we keep ZAZA?

Hopefully, Bebe eventually makes us happy that it didn't happen. I would trade Bebe for Dieng today, in a heartbeat, if I had the chance though.

Slowly backing away from my desire to sign Blatche:

Image

From Grantland-

[Kidd] unilaterally banished Andray Blatche from the team in December. The Nets couched Blatche’s absence as due to “personal reasons,” but Kidd really booted him out of concerns over his conditioning and preparedness, per multiple sources familiar with the matter. The timetable on Blatche’s absence was open-ended; Kidd told Blatche to come back only when he was ready to play. It was a suspension in all but name, and the organization privately applauded Kidd for taking a strong stance.
