its been mentioned, and Love has had some kind words for Thibs and our team in the past. But lately the talk has all been about LA for him

Honeslty I think Melo is better for us anyway. Melo plays a position of need for us, Love doesn't. Melo is more dynamic with the ball, Love scores efficiently but doesn't really ball handle or iso that well.

Rose, love and Melo. Honestly the defense would be ok. Melo and Rose are decent defenders maybe love is too. The scoring load isn't going to be on them as much as it was and they will be two way players because they will have the energy.

Love and Mirotic make no sense together. Melo can 3-4 it whilst Love is a pure 4.

Derrick's a very good defender, much improved from his first couple seasons. Love and Melo not so much, although Melo has stepped up on occasion when motivated, but definitely not a consistent defender.

Did we not just see how CP3 and his defensive deficiencies impacted the Clippers? A good defensive pg matters.

Also how can we even be picky? If we can get Love and Melo with Rose, do it and figure it out later.

I'm curious too but my instinct says it would be bad, our defensive identity would be gone and we'd basically just become a 'try and out score them' team, which would never work in the playoffs against the Heat who lock down like crazy in the final minutes of games. If we can't lock down as good as them, we'll never beat them.

Rose/Melo/Noah/Taj aught to be enough, it really aught to be enough. Great balance of offense and defense. If that core can't compete then fire everybody because something is very wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I see your concerns with Melo and Love defensively. I'm just saying Derrick is clearly a superior defender to those two. A Melo/Love/Noah frontcourt would be great though. It would dominate the boards, and Love isn't any worse defensively than Boozer. And Love's passing, offensive rebounding and ability to stretch the floor with the 3 would be perfect with Derrick and Melo. Sounds completely unrealistic though.

Since Love's contract expires after next year, and Melo is on the block now, isn't it possible to snag Melo, see how it goes, then dangle Taj and Noah as trade pieces the following year if it doesn't work out?

Love isnt going anywhere anytime soon, neither LA or NY have anything to trade

We need to stop pining for Love, him ending up in L.A. is probably more likely than Melo returning to NY. Bulls have to move on and build a team beyond fantasy scenarios.

and, I think a good defensive PG is critical. If you can't slow down the guy who has the ball in his hand about 50% of the time you are going to get killed.

Agreed. I Love KLove but I am not even sure he is a great fit for reasons mentioned i.e. no shot creation, redundant with Taj and Niko, poor defenese. Melo is much better for us IMO.

That being said if I am LA I dont make any trades that cost me assets. Reason being they dont need to. They are the LA freakin Lakers. Top FA's will pine to come there no matter what even with an idiot in charge. They should definitely hold onto their pick this season, draft a stud and count on cashing in on the LA mystique to acquire a young star via FA after Kobe's deal is up.

Love has been a big topic on this board but I've never read a lot of rumors saying he wants to be in Chicago or that even our FO is targeting him.

There's been a few but usually were just another option after LA.
