Trade is not possible but even if it were, theres no way a package that includes Josh Smith nets back Kevin Love

Re: Monroe/JSmoove for Love?
First of all- Kevin Love would just leave after his one season to LA or NY. So, it's already a bad trade.
The money wouldn't match up, because Monroe is going to command at least $10+ million.
They would have to get Monroe to agree to a deal that would send him to Minnesota as well.
It's just a bad plan from top to bottom.
Love would obviously be a good fit next to Drummond. But, he only has interest in two markets. That's just the way it is.

Re: Monroe/JSmoove for Love?
Doesn't have sense got 2 elite rebounders in the same team. Drummond was near to horrible on defense last season. Until he develops his defense, we need a good defender at PF.
Love is the definition of no-defense and he's an anticompetitive talent player, just as Irving. I want players who kill himself on the court for every ball.

yeah part of me wants nothing to do with Love because of this, but at the same time I also think maybe Stan could make it work and get something out of him defensively. He won with Ryan Anderson who is no better of a defender than Love. Being that we would get a 1 year test run to see how it worked before having to commit longterm, I think its worth a gamble if we have the opportunity to get him for Monroe (Monroe/Smith isn't even possible, by rules, and doesn't even match salary).
Monroe for Love straight up makes a lot of sense for both teams though. What would you rather have, a PF/C who is anticompetitive and plays no defense on a potential 4 yr, 60 mil deal in Monroe, or a PF who is anticompetitive and plays no defense, but brings elite offense, on a 1 yr, 15 mil test run?
I'll take the 1yr gamble on Love

I don't think the Wolves would be particularly thrilled about a Pekovic/Monroe/Smith nucleus, either.
If he really does crave the bigger more glamorous markets his unrestricted free agent status frightens me, too.

Re: Monroe/JSmoove for Love?
I don't think getting Love would be possible/make sense. Other teams can offer better players and picks and a better team and city for Love. I'm pretty sure we can't include other players with Monroe anyway so this ain't happening. And like others said, he's a "I'll drop 40 on the Bucks in the regular season player" not a "give me the ball in the post and get outta my way" playoffs player.

Re: Monroe/JSmoove for Love?
I think a great offer for Melo could be so much better for us. I think Melo is better at PF than SF, and he could be absolutely great playing next to Drummond.
Monroe+Smith+Jennings+Bynum+8th x Melo+Shumpert+Stoudamire could be an insane trade for us. Nearly impossible anyway.

So suddenly Monroe is "anti-competitive"
Ok then...

I agree. If Melo were available I'd take him over Love without thinking twice

Not realistic.
But I would do it in a second. A SECOND.

I don't think Monroe can be combined with anyone for a sign and trade, so we need to simplify things a bit.

Re: Monroe/JSmoove for Love?
If other teams are offering top 5 picks I don't think the Pistons can or should compete with that. Trading a player who could walk for nothing is one thing, but our pick for a 1 year rental of a player that won't even improve our biggest weakness (defense) makes no sense to me.

Re: Monroe/JSmoove for Love?
Kevin Love would do wonders for this team in a lot of ways.
But yeah, he would, by all accounts, be a one season rental. I see no reason to believe we'd have any better a shot at keeping him than the Timberwolves do, and their odds by their own assessment are so low they're looking for a deal.
If he was under contract for a long enough period of time to try to build something successful around him and Drummond together, I'd be all for jumping in with both feet and offering whatever it takes to get him.
Of course, if those were the circumstances (IE, him being under contract long enough), they wouldn't be looking to move him at all.

^^^ This is correct, so any premise other than Monroe S&T for Love straight up is off the table.
paQo the BAWSER wrote:Monroe+Smith+Jennings+Bynum+8th x Melo+Shumpert+Stoudamire could be an insane trade for us. Nearly impossible anyway.
Not nearly impossible, impossible. As stated above, we can't combine any assets with Monroe in a S&T. Likewise, the Knicks couldn't combine any assets with Melo (unless he's not opting out, which would mean the Pistons would be doing all of this for a one year rental). Moreover, as has been posted ad nauseam before, we can't include a draft pick in a S&T deal because you can't make such deals until the league year starts in July (after the draft).
As for Love on the Pistons, there's just no way we (or any team) will trade away what he'll cost without an extension in place. In other words, it would take the all-time greatest sales job by our new GM & Coach to bring Love here, so it's really not even worth discussing.
That said, if the Wolves do wind up trading Love, I imagine they'll pretty much tear their current team down to the studs. So is there anyone else on their roster you'd like to target? There have been plenty of Rubio debates before, but what about something simple, like Jerebko (if he opts in and is an expiring) straight up for Budinger or Martin (who could provide some welcome shooting to our bench)? I think that's where our opportunity to benefit from Love's departure could present itself — during Minnesota's subsequent fire sale.

Some people here are like the GM don't talk between them, only make trades with a machine. They can, because they can talk to each other, and make separate trades to make it possible.
