I think there's more chances that you end up worse than this year. Unless you trade your top pick for Love, I don't see a way you guys compete this year. I thought D'Antoni did a superb job this year and the Lakers overachieved. I thought before the season that you were Sixers or Bucks bad.

You take Exum (if is available at 4th) or Smart to play with Rubio ?

You picked the one pick Boston has no chance of getting. They can only get 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8.

That's right 1-3 or 5-8. Looks like Exum will go #4, with Embiid still the favorite for #1, then Parker and Wiggins going 2nd and 3rd. Really hope Utah get's atleast a top 4 pick. Can't wait for the lottery tomorrow!

how do we end up worse? With 1 decent FA signing, return of semi healthy Kobe and a respectable roster is 10x better than the injury plague season we had last year. Wont even factor in the outcome of the draft just yet not at least until we see where we pick. If you thougth MDA did superb job maybe you guys can hire him and see how "good" of a coach he really is :D

If I was a Minnesota fan, I wouldn't want David Lee either. MAYBE if I got Klay Thompson too, but still, David Lee in the frontcourt with those centers doesn't seem like it would work. And it certainly isn't worth taking on Lee's contract just to get Barnes (who had a pretty bad season). And they have no picks.

What do you think of this offer?

Phoenix sends Goodwin and the 14 to Philly

Philly sends Thaddeus Young to you.
Phx sends Frye, the 27th pick, the Lakers 2015 1st (probably a pick around 7th-10th), and the Suns 2016 pick. (Or we send the 18th to Philly and our 2015 pick to you instead of the 2016 pick).

This gives you a good stretch 4 or even another 5 in case you could move Pek later in Frye. And more importantly a very athletic great starting 4 in Thaddeus Young (much better than Sullinger or Green and more bang for the buck by far than David Lee). This gives you a very versatile starter and backup and options in the frontcourt.

So you may not take much of a step back (if one at all this year because of an improved bench at PF), and you would then have two first round picks this year, and 2-3 first round picks next year or 1-2 next year and 2 the following year.

Lakers pick is unprotected? Because that changes a lot the possible deal.

Lakers pick is top 5 protected this year, top 3 the next two years and no protection the following year. I'm surprised people would rather have Sully and #5 then Thaddeus Young, Frye and multiple picks (that Lakers one could be gold too).

We'll see. Kobe comes off a meniscus tear and an achilles injury and he's 37, let's see if he's even average at this point. Draft picks are at best average normally on their first year because they are terrible defenders. That team had 0 defensive talent and poor offensive talent. I don't know how you can complain about him on this last season. (You can complain a lot for that Howard-Kobe season)

How I rank them so far -

1. GSW: Thompson, Barnes, Lee for Love + Martin

It's well chronicled on these boards that I am a bigger fan of Barnes than 99%. I actually think that after this trade the Wolves would be improved next year thanks to a more balanced offense and improved defense. We would be incredibly fun to watch and Rubio would win the MIP award (if Barnes doesn't beat him out for it). Thompson might get an all-star nod. The trade also gives us a lot of depth and gives us the luxury to take BPA with the #13 pick - perhaps a PF that can shoot (Payne), a PF to develop Gordon (perhaps in a small trade up), or Ennis (should he fall). Lee can't stop anyone, but neither can Love. Lee tends to be very underrated - he had 7.6 winshares last year, which would have finished 2nd on the Wolves.

GSW has Curry, Iggy, Green, Love, Bogut with Martin as a 6 man. Thompson and Barnes is a lot to give up, but I think they might ultimately pull the trigger if it's do the deal or see him be traded to Boston.

2. BOS: 2014 #1 (5), Sullinger, Future First, Jeff Green

This can be debated, but at 5 I take Smart and I put him in the back court with Rubio. Shooting will be an issue in year 1, but I think they'll improve enough in time and be a dynamic two-way back court similar to what Phoenix is doing with Dragic and Bledsoe. Green and Sullinger are big guys that can shoot and spread the floor for Rubio and Smart, similar to the Morris twins' role in Phoenix. Smart, Sullinger, Bazz, and Pek give us an identity that we're going to be physical and hurt people. I like this look a lot.

3. CHI: Rights to Mirotic, Gibson, Butler, Kings pick

Not my ideal trade scenario as it doesn't give us an alpha player unless you are that high on Mirotic. Not the worst situation as I think it gives us a team that would be similar to the Bulls this year - a team that's going to scrap and fight and overachieve. However, ultimately I do not think we would be good enough to get more than a win or two in the first round as an absolute ceiling. I prefer the Kings pick as opposed to either of the Bulls' picks this year to make up for the future lost Suns pick.

EDIT:

I'd add, I don't see the HOU, LAL or PHX beating out any of these top 3 teams.

Could be, might not be. Why take a gamble on that pick when we could have a top 5 this year, and a good young prospect.

I can complain cause his philosphy on D has been recorded and his failure in NY also proved his lack of defensive strategy. Its ok you think we get worse, everybody wants to kick Lakers while they're are down, just trying to show as you are a Minn fan you should realize same thing was said of your pick too when it was being dangled as trade bait. Everybody thought it was gona be a great pick except your own fanbase and guess how it turned out? We fielded a team of starters that mostly consisted of other teams rejects with the likes of X, Wes, Marshall, etc. I dont forsee that again, worse case scenario we end up 10-13th, prior to the injuries 1/4 into the season we were actually between 8th-10th place in the west.

Exactly. And they need to give away some value, like Bledsoe. I dont want Frye and T.Young and a pick that might not be that good.

As a Celtic fan, I'd be willing to do Sully + #5 + 2 future 1sts.. seems like a slightly better haul than what OKC got for Harden which, IMO, is a pretty decent measuring stick. GSW isn't even worth talking about if Klay's off the table, Harrison Barnes is a terrible centerpiece for a Love trade.

If you want a maddeningly frustrating, underperforming athletic freak.. Jeff Green can disappoint you just as much as Harry Barnes can. Guy's fools gold.

I'm on this. But I prefer bottoming out and if you can give us one more 1st round pick if we take Wallace contract. I'd do it. It's just me, probably.

Nicely put. The only part with which I partially don't agree is drafting Smart. I mean, I would draft him if Embiid, Wiggins, Parker and Exum get picked in the top 4, but only in that case. If there's any of those 4 left at #5, I take any of them before Smart.

I'd do that deal cause IMO, the less players involved the better. I would consider Green/Martin swap due to depth needs, but we need a long-term SG more than anything and I'm not a Martin fan at all.

Well, partially because your team is built with mostly vets, and with Young and Frye you get a lot better players than Sullinger. And then you get 4 picks instead of one top 5 pick this year.

I don't know how valuable a top 5 pick is. Say Embiid, Wiggins, Parker and Exum are gone at that point. Who + Sullinger is worth Love? Anyone else after that could be a bust. Vonleh would be the best bet at that point imo, but he's a few years away. It just doesn't seem like you'd want to put all your eggs into one lotto pick, after your pick history.

Now if it was top 3, then I feel it's worth it at that point.

I agree with these 3 teams being the frontrunners to land Love, Boston seemed odd at first but they do have assets, but I don't agree with the compensation for Love. No way GS gives up both Thompson and Barnes. Barnes is conceivable, but Thompson isn't going anywhere. The Splash bros will be together for some time. I'm high on Barnes too, but don't think any deal revolving around him is going to be enough to bring in Love. Chicago to me, seems like the team to deal with. With assets like Gibson, Butler, Mirotic rights and picks there's a lot to choose from. A deal like Gibson, CHA pick, future pick and rights to Mirotic will get it done. As a Bulls fan I might be overvaluing our players a bit, but in Gibson and Mirotic you bring in two potential starters right away. Gibson is in the prime of his career, he's on one of the most cap friendly contracts in the league and he's still got another 3 to 4 solid years ahead of him. Mirotic would prob begin his career as a 6th man, but an ideal one at that. Mirotic can score, plain and simple I really have no concerns over whether or not his game can translate to the NBA. A core of Rubio, Martin, Brewer, Gibson, Pekovic, Mirotic, Barea/Shabazz looks solid. It may take a year to build some chemistry but this is team could develop nicely.

So you think that Phoenix package is worth a top 3 pick in this draft? I don't buy it.

No, I was saying if you get a top 3 pick, the Boston deal would be better, but if it is just the 5th or more likely the 6th pick, then I don't know that it's worth it. Now if they add more young players/prospects that you like, perhaps it is, but who else? Avery Bradley?

I disagree. Thompson and Barnes is the equivalent of Gallinari and Chandler. Barnes was dreadful this past year, and one would argue (and argue correctly) that Greene has more trade value than Barnes.

Another reason that Thompson would have to be in the deal -- $. Bogut, Love, Iggy, Curry would make a combined ~ $55 million. Thompson is due for a big pay raise. Ultimately, Love >>>>>> Thompson, and I don't see the Warriors giving up the opportunity to get a top 5-7 NBA player.

I think you'll see the Warriors start out saying Thompson isn't going anywhere (from a negotiation standpoint), but then ultimately relent.

I think it's the third best deal out there, but I think your overselling here. Gibson isn't one of the most cap friendly contracts. He's pretty adequately paid if you ask me. Butler is due for a big pay raise. None of the picks project to be more than late lotto. All in all this trade makes Wolves fans collectively yawn.

So the difference between he Phoenix deal and the Boston deal is two more spots in this draft. Come on. If you took out all the players from the trade and made it draft picks you would still have to add more picks to be able to swap the Phoenix picks for Boston's pick.
