I think they have to be realistic here, 8 is Aaron Gordon or Doug McDermott, it won't have a ton of value most likely so if you can sweep some junk out with it even if the return ain't so hot, do it.

IMO that 8 will be enough to facilitate my personal desire of getting a veteran two in here - ala Afflalo, Henderson etc. in some type of deal

Someone will fall to the 8. There are 8 solid players in this draft. Parker, Wiggins, Embiid, Smart, Exum, Randle, Vonleh, Gordon. We don't get our pick of the litter and I have my preferences, but it's not the end of the world. Someone is falling there. We might as well see who drops.

Vonleh and Gordon are no where near the other 6

There are some "experts" that think Vonleh will be a better nba player than Randle....so I'd say he's pretty close to the other 6.

Vonleh will rise, and that's been the talk for quite awhile. Out of Randle and Gordon he's the most likely PF prospect to be able to produce points consistently in the NBA. I'm pretty sure the Cavs will be taking Vonleh number 1 come draft night. haha.

What makes you think every FO agrees with that? That nobody would take Gordon or Vonleh before the 8th spot, leaving us someone else? Not to mention Gordon would excel with Malone because he'd do everything Malone wants defensively. Gordon could easily become a lockdown defender under Malone and could guard multiple positions given his athleticism. Plus, he's a willing and above average passer. I'd take Gordon in a heartbeat at the 8th spot.

Chad Ford has Smart falling to us at 8. Nbadraft/Draftexpress has Gordon available, but us taking McDermott. Even if we're not sold on Gordon, the possibility of Smart falling to 8 is enough for me to at least want to wait and see who drops. My point is that it's not a lost cause even though it puts us in a harder position.

Smart is redundant for the Magic, unnecessary for the Jazz, and possible for the Lakers and Celtics. If both Lakers/Celtics pass on Smart for one reason or another, we have a shot at landing him. Crazier things have happened.
