If Sloan and Kidd can't get through to you ... you probably aren't going to get it.

Millsap/?

Teague/Schroder
Is Mike Scott an RFA? Last year Ferry got Millsap - who does he go after this year? Seems like another wing? Or do they go after a C? Can't see Millsap coming off the bench with the season he had.

Rondo/Bradley/Pressy/

Is this is the year they trade Rondo? They definitely need a couple of shooting guards - and there is a derth of shooting guards in the draft early in the first round. There has been talk in the papers about Ainge getting a C (came from Sullinger's dad - lol).

From the Draft Lotto thread:
I think the Cavs keep Varejao if they get Love. He isn't a perfect center to pair with Love, but he isn't a bad option. I think the value is close. I think a trade back for the Cavs - with Philly(3/10?) could make a lot of sense. Jack/Bennet could match salaries.

The Timberwolves get a franchise player. They get a second #1 overall plus a veteran PF. The Cavs get a second star player.

So something like this
Code: Select all
Kevin Love 15,719,062
Luol Deng 10,000,000
Spencer Hawes 10,000,000
Anderson Varejao 9,704,595
Kyrie Irving 7,070,730
Jarrett Jack 6,300,000
T Thompson 5,138,430
Dion Waiters 4,062,000
Alonzo Gee 3,000,000
Tyler Zeller 1,703,760
Sergey Karasev 1,533,840
Carrick Felix 816,482
Matt Dellavedova 816,482
Scotty Hopson 816,482
Total 76,681,863
Gives you:
Code: Select all
Irving Jack Dellavedova
Waiters Karasev
Deng Gee Felix Hopson
Love Thompson Zeller
Varejao Hawes
Seems like they would have some work to do on the wings... assumptions that they resign Hawes and Deng.

I don't think it's wise for Cleveland to go after Love. There's too much uncertainty on how well that team will coalesce in just one year. Love may decide to bail when he is a free agent next summer.
Love is either going to go to an established team with the players in place to contend immediately, or he's going to go to a destination franchise like Boston, LA or New York.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 4
Dave Joerger has permission to interview with Flip and the T-Wolves. It looks like he's going home to Minnesota.
The Grizzlies new owner apparently wanted to fire Joerger in December/January and he just fired all of the people in the organization who were responsible for hiring Joerger as HC.
This is crazy what's going on in Memphis.

^ That's a good point verbal, time to start thinking about how the coaching/FO silliness will impact the roster. Does Z-Bo now opt out? If so, I'd be interested in attempting a Nene for Prince+Lee swap.

Milwaukee Bucks
I don't see Milwaukee taking a huge leap this year... agents don't want their players going there - seems like a hot mess.
If they do take Jabari Parker they will have a dearth of guards and too many PFs - they might make a good trading partner. Our assets for them would be Webster, Rice, Satoransky. That of course will depend on our ability to resign Ariza.
If they take a wing or guard, they most likely wouldn't want to trade with us.
Edit 6-27: Drafted Jabari Parker, SF Johnny O'Bryant III, PF, Damien Inglis, SF. Seems like Parker wants to be there, so all is good. With GA growing to 6'11", he is going to be playing PF pretty soon. I think they would trade Henson for young guards. Hence why I would like to have had us move up in the draft and package the pick with Satoransky to Milwaukee - but that would have taken forethought. As is, if they can find a trading partner, they could be pretty decent this year.
USA Today: They got their man. Parker topping the Bucks' wish list is about the only concrete thing everyone knew for the past three months. He's the scorer they so desperately need and the face of the franchise that now has new owners. Inglis was a risk/reward pick that made sense in the second round, even though he's very similar to Parker in build. O'Bryant adds needed toughness and strength at little cost but probably wasn't the best available player at that spot. This ultimately is the draft the Bucks were hoping for, though. Grade: A-
Edit 7-2: Jason Kidd is the new coach.
Edit 7-20: Jerryd Bayless to sign for 2 years at 6M

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 4
Philadelphia 76ers
Philly has a lot of cap space. They have two picks - guess they will get one of Wiggins, Parker or Embiid. If they end up with Parker, they will probably move either Parker or Young.
Trade possibilities with the Wizards: We probably don't have anything they want other than Beal.
Most mocks have them taking Embiid. Which means they most likely will take a wing with the second pick. They have plenty of cap space if they want to go after an FA and they have flexibility if they want to do a trade. I think they will still be too young to challenge for a playoff spot unless they add some veteran talent - but probably not next year.
Edit 6-27: Very interesting draft - basically Philly is heading back to the lottery. Joel Embiid, C, Dario Šarić, PF will not play for them this season. Jerami Grant, SF, Russ Smith, PG, K.J. McDaniels, SG, Vasilije Micić, PG and Jordan McRae, SG might not even make the team. Pierre Jackson, PG - nice. Embiid and Šarić will be very solid, combine that with Noel and you could have an amazing frontcourt for years to come. They are still way under the minimum cap - look for them to spend it on guards.
USA Today: Sam Hinkie has a plan for the future, and it's rarely been this clear. Embiid and Saric will make little to no impact next year, as Saric will stay in Turkey while Embiid will miss extended time rehabilitating the foot stress fracture that caused his slide from the No. 1 spot. But they have ridiculous potential, as does Micic, a great passer who likely will stay overseas as well. Meanwhile, McDaniels and Grant are hard-nosed defenders who are ready to fill roster spots right now, and McRae has some potential as a scorer. But it's Jackson who may prove the biggest addition immediately, as he dominated the NBA Development League last season as a scorer and would fit well next to oversized pass-first point guard Michael Carter-Williams. To execute this all and get a future first-rounder and second-rounder from the Magic for trading down two spots (10th to 12th) is brilliant. They probably wanted Saric at No. 10, after all. This is what the Sixers need to do as they continue to build for 2016 and beyond.
Grade: A+

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 4
Orlando Magic
Another team with two draft picks. Exum or Smart with the first pick. With the exception of Aaron Gordon, it looks like SGs and SFs dominate in picks 8-15. Taking a PG and SG or PG and SF won't hurt the team. But they have the flexibility and young pieces to make a trade as well. Or, they have the cap space to go and compete for a FA. I would call Dante Exum unless something goes terribly wrong.
Trade possibilities with the Wizards: Again, our young guards are what they crave - I don't see us trading Wall/Beal, so we probably don't have any assets they want.
With the right moves, this team could compete for a playoff spot. Heck, they are young but might still make it. What a nice rebuild job.
Edit 6-27: Aaron Gordon, PF, Elfrid Payton, PG added in the draft, Evan Fournier with the trade with Denver giving up Afflalo (don't think that was a good move). Surprised they didn't take Exum - guess they liked Payton better all along. Two good additions to the team. Still thing they could have received much more in return for Afflalo. They will still need to add players in free agency to meet the minimum team salary requirements.
USA Today: On the surface, Gordon and Payton are very likeable and talented players who fit positions of need for the Magic. But the costs were high. In picking Gordon, the Magic passed over several higher-upside players including presumed No. 4 pick Dante Exum. And Payton cost them a future first-rounder and a future second-rounder, as they had to move up two spots in a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers to land him. It's tough not to think the Sixers took advantage of the situation here, and it's tough not to consider that the Magic could have drafted Exum and kept No. 10 pick Dario Saric and potentially been better off. Gordon and Payton give an athletic team even more athleticism, but who other than Tobias Harris is going to score? Marble may help there, but he was a second-tier second-rounder. The players are good. But was the juice worth the squeeze? Grade: C-
Edit 7-2: Waived Nelson, Lamb and price and sign Gordon to a 2 yr 9M contract... wow. Jason Maxiell waived.
Edit 7-7: Channing Frye, 4/32

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 4
Boston Celtics
Not a tremendous amount of cap flexibility. They clearly are short at SG. They seem to think they are fine at C but want to add another shotblocker. Bradely is a RFA, so will probably be back I could see them taking Gary Harris or James Young with their first pick or Marcus Smart and unloading Rondo and Wallace. I could see them trading their 2nd pick if it could help them unload a Wallace or Green.
As a trading Partner, they would part with Bass, Humpries will be a FA - so we should keep that in mind for the MLE.
Edit 6-27: Marcus Smart, PG, James Young, SG makes it probable that they will try to move Rondo, IMO. If they do keep Rondo, I think the guard rotation would just be Rondo/Smart/Young - and that would be fine as well. If everyone is healthy, the team could challenge for a playoff spot.
USA Today: Smart and Young were solid value picks and have a lot of potential on a young and upcoming team that needed perimeter help. So there's not much to dislike here, except that Smart kind of clashes with Rajon Rondo. Is that pick a sign that Rondo is on his way out? That might make sense for Celtics President Danny Ainge's youth movement, though Smart also could play with Rondo as a shooting guard, replacing free agent and fellow defensive ace Avery Bradley. Here's to an intriguing plan that offers some flexibility but may require a drastic move down the line. Grade: B+
Edit 7-1: Avery Bradley 4 years 32M, that makes for a pretty crowded backcourt. Not sure what the rotation will be - it will be interesting if Smart or Young starts over Bradley. 8M is a lot to pay a backup.

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 4
Detroit Pistons
They will have enough cap room to go after a FA or two. They have to make a decision on Monroe - someone is going to make him a max offer based upon the dearth of Cs this year in FA. Billups will probably be released. And they probably won't keep Stuckey - even though they need another SG -- I think they were happy with KCP's progress - never know about SVG though.
I don't see a scenario where we trade with them unless we go hard after Monroe and then it will be a S&T with us giving up picks.
I don't see this as a playoff team next year… I just don't think their guards are good enough but they have a pretty good coach.
Edit 6-28: Spencer Dinwiddie, SG.
USA Today: Once a likely first-rounder, Dinwiddie fell because he missed half his senior season because of a knee ligament tear. That didn't stop Detroit from taking a chance on the talented combo guard. Dinwiddie fits because he can play alongside Brandon Jennings and help with passing or run the point in bigger lineups. He also could challenge Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for time after his disappointing rookie season. The Pistons should've had their first-rounder (a Joe Dumars blunder), but Stan Van Gundy impressed with this very solid pick. Grade: A-
Edit: 7-1: Jodi Meeks, 3 yrs, $19M and Cartier Martin, 2 yr (Vet minimum?)

Re: Discussing Other Teams' Moves Part 4
Cleveland Cavaliers
I am just going to pencil it in now, Andrew Wiggins is the pick - especially with such a huge hole and SF - why on earth did they trade for Deng - because they are the Cavs. They will have to make a decision on Hawes. I think he Depending on the coach, this team could make the playoffs. A few caveats - Wiggins has to be better than the normal rookie. Irving has to learn how to be a leader and get other teammates involved. z
I don't seem them trading a FC player to us… if they keep Hawes, they are set with a 5 man rotation with a lot of flexibility.
Note 6-27: Andrew Wiggins, SG, Joe Harris, SG - Interesting that they would go with Wiggins when they are in a win now mold.
This was solid draft redemption after the head-scratcher of last year, No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett. The Cavaliers took the right players who made sense for their slots and the team. Wiggins has tremendous upside and could blossom alongside a point guard like Kyrie Irving. Harris is the shooter that Cleveland needed. Anyone criticizing these picks needs to realize that, while messing up the top pick was a little harder this year, it still was possible. Both Wiggins and Harris could be impact players next year. Now, about getting that LeBron James guy ... Grade: A-
Edit: Added Lebron James, 2 years, $42.1M, Mike Miller, 2 years $5.5M
