I think that would be a good off season if we are unable to pull off Melo.

Teague/Mack
Kover/Lou-Will
Ariza/ Carrol
Sap/Hill
Horford/Hawes

Sounds like D Ferry acknowledges that our front court was underwhelming last year and is looking to improve depth at C, PF and SF.

The obvious question...who's the odd men out then?

Pero is a 3-pt shooting Center past his prime, is he gone?
Mike Scott is a 3-pt shooting PF with bad defense, is he gone?
Brand is on his last legs, is he gone?
Gustavo stinks at basketball, is he gone?
Bebe is weak and inexperienced, is he finally coming over?

Only so many roster spots available.

Ariza is about to be overpaid after a good post-season run... again

Spencer Hawes is a good backup if he is cheap. He probably won't be cheap.

Jordan Hill is... meh. I suspect he'll get overpaid as well.

I'd suppose a rookie at 2 guard instead of Lou.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

I know that Gustavo and cartier martin are gone(should be anyway). I don't believe Bebe is coming over this season. and even though I like Pero I think that if we get Hawes we shouldn't bring him back. Hawes can do everthing Pero can only better. Hawes also rebounds. so I would hope we would keep Brand as the 3rd Center. I also don't think Scott is going anywhere unless he is packaged in a trade.
So, that would have have the Hawks with 15 players. Maybe the Hawks pull of that schroeder for the 8th overall pick. I guess some more fat would have to be trimmed. Not sure who. Maybe we could move john jenkins and muscala for a draft pick.

Ariza won't get paid that much. and that is exactly what Hawes would be here a good backup Center that could play with Horford in a pinch and push Horford to PF.

Haven't we already agreed to the team option extension with Pero? Hawes would be a nice fit but having him and Pero would be kind of redundant.

The difference is money. Pero will make less than $2 million nxt season. Hawes will likely seek a raie from his $5 million salary last season. Can't see us paying Hawes that much unless he's set to become a major cog on the team.

Does everyone really think Gustavo is that bad?? The MVP of the FIBA americans tournament..Do you honestly believe that Aron Baynes or more so Jeff Ayres is so much better than Ayon??

If we are the "spurs east" we need backup big men who can set solid screens and offensive rebound/block out the opponent's bigs. Two things Ayon does pretty well IMO he can also pass fairly well and finish at the rim!

I actually would like to see Ayon on the squad next year and just for fun I'll say we re-sign him

Hawes can't defend...anyone. Not on the post, not face up, he gets lost off the ball and takes horrible shots. Spencer Hawes is horrible. I don't understand why people still think otherwise.

It would seem that Ferry thinks along the same lines as this guy:

ATLHawksfan21 wrote:Every one wants a traditional Center but they fail to realize that traditional Centers aren't exactly needed anymore. Offensive spacing is greater than what ever small increase on defense that a traditional center would bring.

Guess we'll find out in the coming years if we can indeed jump shoot our way to a TITLE.

Personally, I like the idea of moving Horford to the 4 spot. I think the hawks should go out and get a pure rebounder during free agency/offseason. Id be happy with spencer hawes, Asik, or Jordan hill. Here's my wishful thinking for the starting 5 next season.

1 Teague
2 Korver
3 Milsap
4 Horford
5 Asik

I like the players but not for a starting 5. I feel we need someone else who can handle the ball and create for himself. with that line up only Teague can do that. if Korver was the six man and we had one of Lance Stephenson, Gordon Hayward, Trevor Ariza or Evan Turner starting then I like this line-up

Out of those options I would have to pick Hayward. I like your logic though with creating space. Korver can't do that but he makes up for it with his spot up catch and shop abilities. I know the jazz would have liked to see Hayward develop a little more but I think he would be a solid piece in coach buds system.

Agreed. We definitely need another playmaker.

I like Evan Turner as a cheap pickup. After his disastrous run in INDY he'll come at a discount.

But we saw earlier this season in Philly that he plays well in a SPURS-like offense. He was averaging career highs across the board early in the season before the 76ers went into full tank mode. A pickup of E Turner would be our equivalent of SAS picking up Boris Diaw off the junk pile two seasons ago.

A 1-yr deal for less than $3 million and he would be our 6th man off the bench capable of playing PG, SG or SF as the need arises.

I think Evan turner would be a steal if the hawks signed him. He would be a huge asset to the hawks roster and is a great playmaker. I'd actually prefer to see him sign a longer contract to the hawks (for the right price)
