Draft Exum at #2?
Hello Bucks fans,
Magic fan here and I come to you in peace.
Sorry to create a thread for this (mods please lock if unnecessary) but I'm curious about your organization's thoughts about potentially drafting Exum with your selection. We're selecting at #4 and obviously will get the "scraps" from the top 4 high-potential players (and are debating between Exum and Smart).
To get to the point, what are the chances that your organization takes Exum at #2? We're somewhat torn on him much like the rest of the blogosphere, but I've read ideas on this board at times in the past few weeks that some of you would like to draft Exum. Is there any truth (or group belief) to that idea? Have you heard anything about your management thinking highly of him at all?
Thank you all in advance.

Chad Ford's supposed source(s) thinks it's a real possibility. I'd still be pretty shocked. I think the only way it is even possible is if Embiid's back looks like a chronic problem.

Re: Draft Exum at #2?
Word from the Draft Combine was that Jabari Parker and Dante Exum were the top two candidates for the Bucks and both may be there when the Bucks select at number two. There is a sense that new ownership in Milwaukee is going to have a lot of say in where this pick gets used and as much as the current management may want to go with Exum and set them up going forward, there may be a desire from ownership to pick a named guy that the fans can connect with.

Hammond wanting Exum over Parker makes complete sense based on the way he has drafted in the past.

Ok, thank you. In case it does happen, who are your starters? I'm curious because I do like the talent you guys have right now.

I'm sorry. I'm not too familiar with your organization's past moves (besides the Tobias Harris/JJ Redick deal). Can you elaborate on that? We're wondering who would fall to us at #4.

I think Exum's going to be very, very good. I wouldn't be upset with him at #2.

He likes length, athleticism and going for the home run pick. Examples: Giannis, Sanders, Henson, Jennings, Alexander, etc.
If we took Exum we'd probably be looking at a core/long-term starters of Exum, Knight, Giannis, Henson, Sanders.

Same here. I believe he will be a star. That first step is lighting quick.

Re: Draft Exum at #2?
There's no way we take Exum at 2. Realistically, Wiggins and Parker may still be on the board. No way I take Exum over either of those two guys.
The Bulls are the absolute worst.

Ok, thank you for that.
In that case, your GM and I (personally) share somewhat of the same values. I believe length and height is the one advantage you can never teach (obviously). I didn't realize that your players were so long (pause)until I read that line-up (minus Knight). I'm curious, why not Mayo? Is he your sixth-man?

Hammond has always gone after the higher ceiling players over the more polished guys. He took Giannis this year over guys like Larkin or Plumlee, he traded down last year to take Henson instead of staying put and drafting TJones, traded down to take Tobias Harris at #19 over Faried instead of taking Klay Thompson at #10, and took a project in Larry Sanders in 2010, and Brandon Jennings in 2009 over more finished products like Ty Lawson, and Joe Alexander in 2008 over Brook Lopez. He would go after Exum believing that he can eventually be a better player than Jabari can be even if Jabari is a better player right now.

Re: Draft Exum at #2?
Exum had a lot of Penny Hardaway in him and maybe even some Magic. #2 is going to be tough to pick out that star out of the 3 potential choices.

Exum very well could be my preferred pick by the time the draft roles around. There is a lot to like about him.

Hmmmm, that's really interesting. I definitely see your logic in the patterns of your draft history. So it's safe to assume that Exum is definitely in mind with your management and the #2 selection. I personally like him a lot. I like what he brings and I can see what he COULD be if he ever realizes his full potential. I appreciate the input. Thanks!

As a Magic fan, naturally that size and skill level reminds us of Hardaway (whom we love). I'm curious, is there no clear-cut selection for you at #2?
I know a few have mentioned Exum as a possibility because of potential, but is there no "sure-fire", "hit-and-win" choice now between Embiid/Parker/Wiggins?

Mayo missed a bunch of games with some sort of food poisoning or something and gained a lot of weight last year so they held him out to get back in playing shape and he never really did. Knight can guard quicker PGs next to Exum and play off the ball as a spot up shooter, but also has a good wingspan/standing reach and has the strength to defend bigger SGs as well.

Wiggins is the closest thing you'll get to a consensus pick. Though it's looking like he'll be off the board when we are on the clock.

Re: Draft Exum at #2?
We have been linked to Embiid. We have been linked to Wiggins. Now we have been linked to Parker and Exum being tops on our board. Impossible to tell at this point what is real and what is smokescreen.
All posts are my own opinion.

Ok cool, thanks Doc, I appreciate the insight. So your team is definitely considering all 4 of the high-potential picks (Wiggins/Parker/Embiid/Exum). Any news about Embiid's medical records being shown or withheld from your management? I thought I read a rumor that his agent was using HIPAA as leverage to keep Embiid out of Milwaukee.
