Re: Ford Mock 6.0 #2 Embiid
Athleticism is overblown when it comes to being able to defend at a decent level. Elite athleticism is great, of course, but it certainly isn't necessary. Just look at a guy like Battier. He's been an elite defender his entire career and was never a good athlete. He can still defend at a high level and he's 35.

He has a complete offensive game at 19, that's something special imo. So many of you guys LOVED Tobias and I did too but Parker can do everything he can and more. With coaching and the right scheme, I see zero reason to worry that he's going to be some all time sieve on defense like some people make him out to be. Put him in between Giannis and Sanders, we'll be able to defend AND score.
He has vertical athleticism not lateral.
I've never heard this until recently, how do you quantify lateral quickness? I think that is something that can be improved, I like Parker's body. He has that baby fat look just like Tobias and I think in the league we can mold into the player we want him to be, we can lean him out or we can bulk him up. He's got a strong build and nobody will question that he has an NBA body in a year or 2.

Gerald Green now? Or Gerald Green in his previous 7 seasons? If Green can continue to put up #'s like he has been for PHX this last year, he'd be a fringe all-star caliber player. Gerald Green when he came into the league was just an athlete with no discernible basketball skills.
This idea that Wiggins is "just an athlete" also continues to be way off base. Guys who are "just athletes" don't put up 20 & 7 per 40 on 56% TS and get #1 overall pick consideration in a deep draft class.

Too lazy to check and see if this has been posted yet but Ryen Rusillo on Grantland spoke with three current NBA scouts about four of the top prospects. They all agree that Embiid, if healthy, is the best player in the draft.

where I see some green wiggins similarities is that they both kind of need the right system, coach, and pg to hit their peak performance. Had Gerald green played for a guy like hornacek (who not only runs the perfect system for green but also does an outstanding job instilling confidence in his players and playing them to their strengths) earlier in his career we might have a totally different view on him as a player.Ron Swanson wrote:breakchains wrote:I got ravaged for suggesting the Gerald Green comparison a couple months back.

Now the green comparison is certainly not perfect because Gerald is a much more natural 3pt shooter than wiggins and wiggins is light years better on defense.
I like Wiggins alot and hope he ends up on the bucks but it does scare me a little that the bucks don't have the best coach or guard play to put him in a position to succeed.

It's been posted, but it's a really really great article. Validates all of my Wiggins concerns.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that Cleveland is taking Embiid.
Also becoming more and more convinced that we should take Parker over Wiggins in that scenario. To be fair though, I'll probably change my mind in an hour and then four thousand more times prior to the draft.

Just a thought, but for the people that say Parker and Giannis cant play together. What is the diffence when the Thunder draft Durant and then traded for Green? Didn't Green and Durant both play the same position? Im not comparing Durant/Green to Giannis/Parker but in terms of fit/positions

I have the same problem and will until the draft. Everyday I can read something that convinces me I hate/love one of the guys I didn't hate/love before and I'd be really happy if we got him. Then, an hour later, I hate that guy.

As long as we don't do something dumb like take Randle @ #2 I'm going to be cautiously optimistic no matter which of the top guys we get. Do I have a preferred order? Yeah. But at the end of the day all of these guys have enough in their favor to warrant optimism and they all have red flags that warrant caution. Basically, once we get our guy my mindset will be "ok, show me that it can work and I'm on board"

They traded for him when they weren't really sure what position Durant was going to play (or even Green for that matter since he's a tweener). They ultimately traded Green for Kendrick Perkins because they didn't think he fit well with Durant. So I think that is a pretty poor example to cite.

Re: Ford Mock 6.0 #2 Embiid
I wouldn't be surprised if somebody mentioned this already, but here is my idea.
I am expecting Cleveland to take Embiid first, unfortunately.
Now it comes down to Wiggins or Parker or Exum. It seems like Philly would much rather take Wiggins over Parker. So what if we just trade down to #3, and get the #10 pick as well.
Personally, I would rather have Parker/Exum and one of Gordon/Saric/Nurkic than just Wiggins.

they also traded jeff green because he was pretty damn bad for the thunder. like one of the top 10 most hurtful players to his team iirc.

I just don't want the owners making the pick because if anyone's going to pick the best player available it's going to be this scouting team of Hammond's.

Re: Ford Mock 6.0 #2 Embiid
Can anyone point me in the direction of an article which says that Tellem is specifically avoiding the Bucks? Everything I've found online makes it seem like Tellem isn't releasing Embiid's medical records to anyone. I haven't seen a specific statement which indicates that Embiid doesn't want to play in Milwaukee.
