Re: Dario Saric
The 4s will destroy Dario. He aint that athletic as it is right now - imagine what will happen when he adds 10+ pounds?
Combine that with his short arms, and it's obvious the key-way will never be his domain in the NBA.
When you look at the scouting video for example, you can notice how comfortable he is at or near the three-point line. And like it or not that's where he belongs. That's his game. That's the aspect of his game that has brought him so much attention, and to move him away from that in my opinion would be insane.
I see a lot of similarities with what Kukoc went through in his early years. People are already talking about how Dario should change, but I can't see it happening. It'll just be a waste of time. Once they allowed Kukoc to play his natural game (the type of game he was drafted for), he added an entirely different dimension to the Bulls, something that no other teams could match. He was a nightmare to play against.
I know speed is an issue for Dario, but fortunately for him, speed can be easily improved (average speed would be good enough imo). And improving the speed of the release on his shot can also be easily improved as well.
If he can improve his foot speed, and speed up his shot-release and improve his accuracy, he will be a boss. That's what he needs to focus on.

Saric with another great performance. 36 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks in an away win against rivals Zadar. He is getting more and more comfortable with the 3 point shot, shooting 5 of 8 on the night. If he could get it to 40 percent in the next few years, and with his work ethic it´s highly probable, you can´t really see the limit for this kid.
Two major question marks for years now have been his body/athleticism and his shooting. He has been noticebly working on his body, and measurments on most draft sites aren´t up to date. He is now around 235 lbs of muscle without losing any of his speed. And he is barely 20 years old so this talk that he is to weak to play the pf is puzzling. He could easily get to 250 and still have his mobility. Now shooting has been hot and cold. But his mechanics improved. And he is picking his spots better. I mean in this game against Zadar he looked like a 30 year old playing with high school kids. Flat out domination.
All in all, Saric can score, rebound, pass, handle the ball. That´s the basics. On top off that he is all hustle and heart (think Noah) and a winner. You can´t measure that on a combine. He elevated his game in all of the finals and most important games.
It would be fun if Saric would get picked by the Lakers (Magic is his idol) and Nurkic by Boston so they could continue their ABA rivarly in the NBA.

Any links to the game?

Re: Dario Saric
givony said that saric will only come over next yr if the celtics or lakers take him. sounds like a whole lot of posturing, but if true that could scare some teams later in the lottery off. say the 6ers take him with their 2nd lotto pick to stash, he might not come over until they're a competitive team again which could be something like 3-4 years down the road.

he expecting the Lakers or Celtics to be competitive sooner than the 6ers?

maybe. they're both organizations who have the tradition and cachet to pull in name FAs while still sucking.
but like i said, it sounds like posturing. i think he and his team know that where the C's and lakers are slotted is his absolute ceiling in terms of how high he can go in the draft, but in posturing this way, he could be scaring off teams below them.
just by going off of what has been said by saric's camp, i think it's safe to assume that the team who picks him will play a major role in how quickly he comes over.

Re: Dario Saric
So, I've watched a couple Saric games. I think in the NBA he can pass like Hedo Turkoglu, over people in the half court, off the pick and roll or dribble, and to the right player in transition. Probably also has the same physical limitations as an older Hedo. That's their only similarities though, aside from, maybe, a touch of clutchness.
There are other parts to Saric's game. He's the leading rebounder in the ABA somehow, but I don't know how that'll translate because he's weak and maybe has short arms.

that's what i caught out of this and from other comments from his camp that i made mention to earlier in the thread. Not a fan of it but i guess if he's in a situation where he can attempt to pull string like that then more power to him. We'll see what happens come draft day.
Any idea or word on which internationals ARE ready to come over and play this year outside of Exum and Capella?

He has a "nose for the ball", positions himself well, and fights like hell for the ball. So despite his limitations, he does pretty well for himself there. With longer guys, he will have more trouble, but he will always be a pitbull.

i think that alone will serve him well. I don't think he'll ever necessarily be as big a star in the NBA that he could be overseas but he looks to have enough translatible skills to make himself a valued piece to a NBA team.

Good description. That's another thing I want to add. He's not soft.

i would never understand why people call saric weak. i mean he is strong for his age it's not like he will stay kid for rest of his career. most of other kids at this point are week or not strong enough
and he is not short. hes standing reach is 9' 0 what makes him among best at his position ( measures are from 2011. when he is barely 17 ) . ok, he is not most explosive but he is high inteligent with great anticipation and awareness

Agree. And obviously he's not KG but his speed and agility are more than adequate for a PF.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

Re: Dario Saric
I think he would generally struggle defensively at power forward. I made a quick judgment on the current starting powerforwards in the league and how Saric would deal:
Sixers - Thad - Fine
Raptors - Amir - Might be fine/Might be too long
Knicks - Bargnani - Too big
Nets - Garnett - Too long
Celtics - Sullinger - Might be fine/Might be too strong
Bucks - Ilyasova - Fine
Pistons - Monroe/Smith - Too long
Bulls - Gibson - Too strong
Cavaliers - Thompson - Fine
Pacers - West - Too strong
Heat - Bosh - Too long
Bobcats - McRoberts(?) - Fine
Hawks - Horford - Too strong and long
Wizards - Nene - Too strong
Magic - Harris - Fine
Spurs - Duncan - Too big and strong
Mavericks - Nowitzki - Too long
Rockets - Jones - Too long
Grizzlies - Randolph - Too big, strong, and long
Pelicans - Davis - Too long
Wolves - Love - Too big and strong
Thunder - Ibaka - Too long and strong
Blazers - Aldridge - Too long
Jazz - Favors - Too big, strong, and long
Nuggets - Faried - Too strong
Clippers - Griffin - Too strong
Lakers - Hill - Too long
Kings - Thompson - Too big
Warriors - Lee - Might be fine/Might be too strong
Suns - Frye - Too big and long
Sixers - Thad - Fine

Nurkic probably.
Nurkic signed a 3 year deal recentl, not sure about NBA outs but looks like at least one year away.

Seems Saric needs one of those medieval stretch machines since it appears he is not long enough.
There is much more to basketball than the length of your arms. People have become to upset with measurments. What happend to the good old eye test?
Saric will never have a big wingspan, but he is working on his post game, on his three point shot, body, finishing under contact all the things he needs to play pf on the NBA level. And watching him during his time in Cibona you can see a remarkable growth. He want`s to be the best, win every game. And he leads by example. I meen, if your best player is diving in the stands for losse balls, fighting for every ball, plays with energy each and every minute of every game... than his teammates start to belive in winning and so do the fans.
And, just for fun, if we are going by that logic, who of this pf-s has the speed to stop Saric on the perimeter? And who is the 20 year old pf in the world who has the strenght to bang with the likes of Randolph, Nene or West?
