Damn I was watching some Mcdermott highlights.. it's like watching a shorter version of Dirk, he plays IDENTICAL. If he was 7 feet this guy would be in the conversation for top 5 imo, his height will be an issue, but he definitely has some scoring talent.

Doug doesnt look half as bad as some of the comments posted on this thread.
He will never get his shot off since nobody will play him to drive or pass. His defense is poor. He will be Jimmer Fredette.
People forget how good rookie/prime Mike Miller was prior to all his horrific back injuries. The fact he's still such a good shooter/IQ player given his injuries is astounding. McDermott is somewhere between a poor man's Dirk/Mike Miller in terms of his size/skill. He can handle, post up, drive, and definitely shoot the ball. That's going to get you far in the league no matter what. People expect every player in the draft to be a star, never giving thought to the fact that having key role players is equally important. I saw the hate for McDermott on here, so I decided to go watch some videos, and he's pretty impressive. Has a lot of nice post moves, one leg fade away step back out of the post ala Dirk, up and unders with a very similar "sweep through/step through" move to Dirk, sells the pump fake at a high level, reads the screens really well and knows how to curl his body off so he gets himself set up for the jumper off the curl and hits it perfectly, real nice catch and shoot threat. He's definitely slow on his first step, but once he commits to the drive he does a good job evading and ducking his head under on the drive (also similar to Dirk) and laying it up high off the glass, can take contact and finish, what's not to like offensively speaking?
I'm not expecting McDermott to be a star, but I think he'll carve out a nice scoring role over the rest of his career. As for the Jimmer comparisons, Jimmer is a slender built small guard who can't do anything other than shoot, but nonetheless he played pretty well in limited minutes this past season (plenty of Kings fans were asking him to get more burn regularly). I don't like Jimmer, but I like McDermott much more. A big difference between say Redick and Jimmer, is that Redick understands his role within the offense and picks good shots to take within the flow of the offense, where as Jimmer hasn't learned that he's no longer the star player of Brigham Young, and still treats it as so, coming in and taking questionable pull up shots at will out of sort/rhythm.
As for the Adam Morrison comparisons, there is a major difference in their confidence/mental makeup. Adam always had poor body language/confidence off the court, he gets shook easily (watch his shy demeanor on Jimmy Kimmel post Lakers championship). I don't think you'll see the same issue with McDermott, he seems like a legit pro.

I like him, I think at worse he can be Kyle Korver type of role player and at best I see better version of Wally World ..Anatomize wrote:m83588333 wrote:Risk101 wrote:

Lol I compared Doug to Kyle Korver and was labeled a racist by Patman (even though I'm white). In this interview McDermett emphasizes that he looks up to Kyle Korver.
You know what - Doug is more athletic than we give him credit for. Not sure how his first step is but he seems quicker on his feet than Melo and I would say his functional athleticism, aside from leap vertically, is comparable to Derozan at the very least. Considering he's much more skilled than Derozan is I like Doug's chance of becoming an above average pro. This could be a Kevin Love situation where he's not nearly as stiff as people think he is and is actually more skilled than people already give him credit for. Kid could pan out.

But that's his downside.
No thats his backside.
Lowry's upside is mental and psychological.

Theres probably more to the story. I don't get how someone can be labeled a racist for making comparisons. The color of your skin doesn't even matter at that point.

Man I really like Vonleh. Any chance he falls to 8? I think something can be worked out with Sac.

I have Vonleh #5 on my board. Absolutely love him
Its too risky to do this trade before its Sac turn but if he is somehow still there, I would trade Ross + #20 + Novak

Yeah, Vonleh is a beast, I think he's going to wow a lot of teams up at the top and I can see him moving up from where he's slotted at most Mock drafts. Not only does he have the skills, but his measurements are disgusting. Huge hands/wing span for a guy 6'8 6'9. He kind of looks like a stronger/beastier version of a young Bosh. I see Vonleh going somewhere between 4-6.

I like the Vonleh Bosh comparison's.... getting a Chris Bosh like project at 7-8 would be amazing. If he falls, somehow getting that Sacramento pick would be intriguing. Not sure what it takes though, im guessing Rondo will be in the mix for that pick.

There are a couple of guys that I've been thinking would be good at our #20 pick, but if Doug McBuckets is there, no question we take him and run. I'd be very surprised if he's still available at #20 though.

I've been on the Vonleh bandwagon from the start. I think there's a chance he goes as high as #4. Which is a big time shame for us, since I too think something could be worked out with Sacramento for the #8 pick.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Been repping Vonleh since the fall myself. He could go as high as #4, I agree, although the Magic are eying Exum and Smart in order to form a top tier back court that can rival Washington's. Noah definitely goes before Randle though and there's no way Noah is available at #8 unfortunately. It's not going to happen. He's the second youngest in this draft class after Aaron Gordon and could conceivably grow another two inches making him even more of a monster.

If Smart, Vonleh, or Randle fall to the 8th pick, I'd say we should jump on that oppurtunity. Otherwise, I'd say we just play it safe with our own picks.

Yea I could see Vonleh leapfrogging Randle for sure. He's not as talented as Bosh was when he entered the draft but with some work and time, he has a chance to be close.
Gordon worries me. Not sure what position he plays in the NBA.
Love the Miller comparison for McDermott.
As for Payton, I been on the bandwagon. Absolutely no reason for him to be ranked so low besides perhaps team need but talent for talent, he's better than Ennis. After workouts, I could see him flying into the late lotto - mid first round.
This is really one of the deepest drafts in a very, very long time. I hope Masai is getting another pick.

Just reading this makes me think there is a chance the Cavs could "reach" for Vonleh first overall. You'd have to hospitalize Bill Simmons.
