For those curious how (roughly) 20-80 ratings might translate, here's a math-y version.

Thus, Pompey's hit/power tools suggest, by that scale (and making some assumptions about his walk rate), something like a .280/.330/.420, without controlling for park factors and so forth. A .750 OPS is above league-average, and a good defensive center fielder with some speed who hits at a league-average rate is a very valuable asset.

Also, in the Hunter Renfroe writeup:

Chiseled from shoulders to legs; strong core; great backside.

So, short-season wasn't even a minor challenge for LB Dantzler last year, in his pro debut. Thus far, full-season A ball appears to similarly yawn-worthy; his power is down a little in the early going, but his OBP is well over .400, and he clocked his second homer tonight. He is however starting to show sizable platoon splits, and as he's a 1B/DH through and through, hitting lefties at an adequate rate (or hitting righties with such power that it doesn't matter) is probably what will make or break him.

Deck McGuire was promoted to Buffalo/AAA, after spending portions of four different years in Double-A. I'm not expecting much from him, but it will be interesting to see how he does in a higher level.

Wow I'm drooling at that scouting report. Sounds like the power could be more like .450 if he puts it all together. I'll take that 6-7 days a week, thanks. Anything like an early Nick Markakis would be great.

He's also my kinda switch-hitter: more power from the right side, better contact from the left side. That's a mix that works pretty nicely given the distribution of right/left-handed pitching.

I wonder if AA's fixation with assets just screws up timetables right down the line. Esmail Rogers sucks, but AA isn't going to give him the hook so Stroman has to stay in BUF, McGuire who finally seems to deserve a promotion stays in NH, and Norris who has nothing much to gain from more starts in DUN has to hang in there. If not Stroman, than perhaps Drabek or Nolin (when the latter is healthy). All blocked by Rogers who is only suited for pitching in the wrong end of a bad blowout.

Okay, AA, if it will help balance the ledger, dealing Lincoln for Kratz and Rasmussen worked out well enough. Feel better now?

I'm not a fan of Rogers by any stretch, but I'm not sure that he's blocking anyone. Stroman was already up, and as soon as one of our suddenly-competent scrub starters turns back into a pumpkin, he'll undoubtedly be back up again. Drabek had been getting shellacked in AAA before tonight, and it's still an open question as to whether Nolin has the necessary stuff to beat big league hitters (and it's also concerning that, in a smallish sample, his walk rate has climbed in his AAA starts this year and last).

Now, is Rogers blocking a much better reliever? Definitely. But the travails with the trio of starters probably owe to other considerations.

Coincidence no doubt, but mere hours after Rogers is out righted, McGuire gets early wakeup call telling him he's promoted to BUF. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but wonder if Norris is promoted after his next start to take McGuire's place at NH.

Similar fate for Ben White in DUN - 10 hits in 3.2 innings - bit at least his mates have saved him from the fire pit, scoring 6 in the 4th to take an 8-6 lead

OT: Syndergaard elbow injury

Top pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard has been placed on the disabled list and will be dispatched to New York for an examination with team doctors after being diagnosed with a flexor pronator strain in his right elbow.

The injury can be a precursor to Tommy John surgery, but the Mets portrayed the injury as "mild" and not overly concerning.

It's not too early to judge the trade as a massive overpay by the Jays. If Dickie helps us win the Series, then the conversation can start about whether it still may have been worth it.

But especially in the case of Snydergaard, why be so horrible? He was one of our big 3. Since his team is in the other league, we can still take a rooting interest in a guy the Jays scouted and helped to develop. It's not his fault he was traded.
