Report: Wizards interested in Kevin Love

Post#1 » by miller31time » Mon May 26, 2014 7:52 pm

I'm sure this could be put into another thread but considering (A) this is probably the biggest name I've heard attached to the Wizards in some time and (B) I didn't see any discussion about the following article, I felt this deserved it's own thread.

Bleacher Report just released an article citing David Aldridge (who I actually respect) who says that the Wizards have entered the Kevin Love Sweepstakes. According to Aldridge, Beal is reportedly off the table and untouchable.

Bleacher Report Article

I don't think Beal should be untouchable and I'm skeptical that, if push came to shove, EG wouldn't deal him in a package for Love. We should do whatever is necessary to pair Wall and Love up. Then build around the two of them.

I'm glad we're actually being included in these rumors for once, it shows our franchise's rep is turning around

I wanna hear about Washington being in the mix for Love, Bosh, Melo, etc all summer.. even if nothing actually happens, being seen as a desirable destination will really benefit us down the line.

Interested in a 26/13/4 guy who can stretch the floor? Really?

But any Love package is going to have to start with Beal and Nene; I don't see any other trade chips we could put together for the Wolves.

EG is really over valuing his assets if he think Beal is untouchable. Outside of Beal we have absolutely nothing to offer.

Beal is a more clutch player than Wall.

The Wizards should trade Wall not Beal if they want Kevin Love.

It would be a jackassed, dumb move to trade Beal for Love. Look at Beal's poise, pure shot at his age, and his ability to defend. Wall is overpaid, overrated, and not as classy as Beal. Wall is also replaceable. Micheal Carter-Williams is already better than Wall IMO. Marcus Smart, Tyler Ennis and others will come in ready to start.

The Wizards best move would be to send Wall for Love and Rubio.

I think it's foolish to make any player on this team untouchable.

That's a fair deal, but there's no way the wiz trade Beal. He and Wall have been labeled the core of the team, and those two are hoped to be the top backcourt tandem one day.

I seriously doubt we can get Love without Beal, but I still very much like that we floated this trade rumor. By making it known that we really want Love, we send a message to the Love camp that there is a team out there that wants him that's a perfect fit for him. If Love wants to play here, he can quietly tell suitors like Boston and Cleveland that he will not resign next year if they trade for him. Love's trade value will drop and suddenly Porter plus 3 future 1sts starts looking attractive to Minnesota.

Wow, as a Celtics fan, that would be a frightening domino to fall.

The Wizards should spend whatever it costs to bring in an all-star like Kevin Love. If you can somehow do it without sacrificing Wall and Beal, however unlikely it seems, brilliant.

It would put you in great position in 1-2 years to attract Kevin Durant, who clearly loves the city from everything you've said. You need to position yourselves for that. You never know what could happen, especially if OKC doesn't win the next two years. Who would have imagined KG in 2005 (the game's best player) playing in Celtic green two years later? Or Shaq playing in Celtic green three years after that? Or even LeBron and Wade teaming up (which in 2009 would have seemed crazy). Anything is possible in the NBA

First off, I don't think Minny would trade Love straight up for Wall -- or maybe better to say that they get the short end of that stick.

Assuming that trade can't happen for whatever reason, I don't see how we can make a trade w/o including Nene -- unless maybe it's a S&T w/ Gortat? -- otherwise the $$$ can't work as far as I can see. And if Nene is the big $$ piece in the trade, I don't see Minny taking any other player from us but Beal -- they are going to want value *somewhere* in the deal -- and there certainly will be lots of other interested teams!

Minny has a very expensive long term piece in Pekovic, especially with Dieng coming alive at the end of last season. It would make for an interesting angle to parlay that into a 3-way with a team that needs a Center. Someone like Dallas?

I just don't see us being a part of it.

Guys, seriously..... trading Beal or Wall for love........ come on. what has love done in mini with the team he has. He has a decent center, some decent guards and bunch of young guy and some serviceable yet over paid swing men. sound familiar. If we trade out beal or wall. Kevin love is the best player on a mediocre team. We need to keep Beal and Wall if we get Love or we might as well not get him at all. Love can not win on his own, especially with a less than stellar front office. We need to make love apart of a big 3 to make it work and for love to stay. and more importantly to win a title. What is the point of getting love if we are not better off than we are now. We want to get better, get love would make us better, but getting love at the expense of a future star 2 guard, and one of the best back courts in the NBA, does not make us better than we were this year. Getting a big fish like Love is nice but not worth Beal, at least not to us.

But I still think we can make a play for Love, if Love wants to play for a play off caliber team with Wall and Beal, Then we make an offer of 3+ future firsts plus our over seas players. plus a combination of, NENE, or ariza(s&T) or Porter or web, it's a decent offer. He could also make it known, quietly that he won't resign with any one else.

I'd trade anyone on this team for love without hesitation.
