Can someone please explain why "if Smith must start" and "if Monroe must start" we can't just start Drummond/Monroe/Smith and pull one at the first dead ball? Is there some rule I don't know about that starters must play the first 5 minutes of the game? Seems to me we can start the first few minutes of the game with all 3 and then have a 3 big rotation where we end up playing each guy ~36 mpg. We aren't going to get anything worth mentioning for Smith and if we did move him we'd have ~30 mpg we'd be playing Harrellson/Jerebko with one of them starting if something were to happen to Drummond & Monroe.

The idea of pulling someone at the first dead ball may seem ridiculous, but if we are dealing with such mental midgets that everyone "must start" then ridiculous may be the way we need to go to accommodate them. Sign & trade a heavily protected future 1st or Mitchell/2nd for Gordon Hayward to be our "starting 2" and swap a big for KCP at the first deadball. The mental midgets get what they need and we play most of the game with a balanced lineup of:

Jennings/Bynum

KCP/Singler
Hayward/Singler

Monroe/Smith
Drummond/Monroe

There is no rule, but there is also a reason nobody does it. You aren't going to establish much of a rhythm if you change you lineup every 5 minutes.

I understand that. But we have mental midgets who MUST start the game. The notion is ridiculous to me, if a guy is going to play 36 minutes, who cares what 36 minutes it is. But we likely can't move Smith and ridiculous people sometimes require ridiculous accommodation.

Not to mention it's more important who is on the floor to finish than who starts IMO and in that scenario you'd have Smith/Monroe (unless need for a key defensive stop) because Bang-a-Drum will be utilized until Andre doesn't embarrass himself at the charity stripe.

The solution would be don't sign mental midgets & if you do, can them asap.

That's why we had some ridiculous results the last 6 years.

Neither Smith nor Monroe has actually said "I have to start".

I'll say this if SVG starts the season with josh smith as 6th man that's all that's needed to earn my loyalty as a fan. It's the obviouds thing to do yes but this franchise has been so devoid of common basketball sense in recent years that's all it would take.

Let's see if Monroe forces a S&T before we spend too much time on 3 man rotations.
