No way we draft him at 9. I freaking hope not anyway

There's been a barrage of people trying to make a case for us to take him at #9 the past couple of days and I just don't get it.

Where? Are they on acid?

I guess they're on the general draft prospects thread.

And I don't think being a UNC or ACC fan mean that they are on acid, just bias, or maybe they've seen enough of Hairston to truly believe in him unlike me.

I have seen him go around 13th at best in some mocks but 9 is a stretch.

If we pick Hairston with the 9th pick I'll literally stuff Cho's favorite ping pong paddle up his ass, Beerfest style.

I hope people saying that are just going by the "hurr durr, MJ UNC" connection.

How do you know he plays ping pong? What if he's more into say bowling or hang gliding?

He is actually a very good tennis player. I know a guy who plays with him in a charlotte league.

Tell him not to draft Gary Harris or fans will riot worse than they did for the Zeller pick.

Hairston also ranked as one of the worst passers in the D-League this season, generating an assist on just 4.1% of his possessions (21 total assists in 839 minutes), one of the lowest rates among all players in our Top-100 prospect rankings. While some of this has to do with the nature of his role on the Texas Legends (essentially a hired gun) and some of it is a product of the style of play of the D-League in general, his assist rate ranks very poorly even compared to other D-League wing players, dead last among NBADL shooting guards in fact.

I read this and can't help but think that sounds a lot like Gary Neal 2.0.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

He did play good defense at UNC. I am not sure anyone plays defense in the NBDL. He moved well laterally and had the strength to play solid post defense when he played the 4 at the end of his sophmore year.

From a Daryl Morey AMA on reddit:

Rich Cho (Charlotte GM) and I are the best in the league at table tennis. I beat him last year, he got me this year. Bob Weiss and Rick Carlisle are the other good players.

I wouldn't mind getting him at 24, if he's available.

Either 24 or trade back into the mid teens but I think I'd prefer Payne in that scenario.

Davis Williams ‏@DayvisWilliams 6m

.@rick_bonnell says on @wfnz that a team picking in the teens has taken PJ Hairston off their board, don't think he's gotten by his past.

No. I'd say passable defense. Hendo levels.

Yeah, this is what I expected. The fact that PJ's troubling past is a 2-3 hour drive away from Charlotte all but removes him from being drafted by Charlotte. You can basically lock this thread IMO.
