Remembering the 2007 NBA Draft, 2nd round with the 9th pick

Post#1 » by basketballwacko2 » Wed May 21, 2014 10:49 pm

The Pacers picked Stanko Barac! We made a trade with Miami to get the guy and he's never played for us not even in the D League or Summer League.

But 9 picks later in the 2nd round the Lakers picked Marc Gasol of Spain, and later traded him to Memphis with a bunch of junk for his big brother Pau Gasol.

Wouldn't it have been nice if we'd picked Marc Gasol? :nonono:

At least we made up for it with PG and Lance.

Marc Gasol wouldve been great; Apparently Indiana scouts and or GM at the time didnt have him on the radar. Seems that Indy did that a few times; with Lorbek; Brezec and Stanko being picked and never becoming an option to help the team. They probably have another in the Serbian Forward Davis Bertans. Its like they do this to avoid adding players trying to manage the cap; but at the same time they miss out on gems; on cheap contracts.

The rights to Bertans went to San Antonio in the trade that got us George Hill. 8-)

As much as I wanted Larry to draft an international guy and try to do what the Spurs does in investing on foreign players, I think he will go for an immediate help.

All this time I have this eery feeling of the Pacers wanting Jordan Bachynski and just now I watched his interview and he said the only interview he's had was with the Pacers. I always thought about him as Larry's kind of guy, in a way similar to Hansbrough and Plumlee. He's got the resume Larry's been looking for rookie big guys.

Marc Gasol was overweight and most scouts were non-plussed by his attitude. I was surprised that the Lakers got him that early.

You think the 18th pick in the 2nd round was "early?" :o

There was talk of a team buying pick 60 to take a flyer on him. There were other teams that assumed he'd go undrafted and they'd be able to see another year of international ball from him prior to the next draft. So... yeah.

Pacers are historically horrible drafters outside of PG, Hibbert, Lance, and Granger.
