Of course they are.
This franchise is hopeless, Grunfeld is up next.

So Ernie's secret 3rd-year option will be exercised, then he will get a 3-year extension to go-along with Randy's deal.

Why are you guys acting surprised for? This past post-season was the equivalent of the Skins winning the super bowl.
The whole FO is getting re-upped...it wouldn't make sense [from a PR perspective] not to after this past season.

Not surprised but good lord is this a bad move.
And especially with the expressed interest in Love (a guy who apparently hates Randy Wittman), this doubly sucks.

Re: Wizards nearing extension with Wittman (Woj)
Most of us have criticized Wittman all year, but honestly he earned this extension. He proved in the playoffs that he can coach and make adjustments on the fly.
Randy is not a great coach at all, but he's not as bad as I once thought he was. I'll give him that. And there's something to be said for continuity, and the fact that all his players have effusively praised him and want him back.
The main thing I'm hoping for is that there's a 3rd year team option

Were they worried someone would poach Wittman?
To be successfull in the NBA requires:
1. Star players
2. A GMs to acquire them and assemble teams around them
3. A coach to not mess things up
Why is their a rush to take care of priority number 3(when there are other decent options available), if it will prevent prioriy #1?

Ted lacks imagination with this franchises. I really hope this team gets off to an awfu start next year. They are not that good.
44-38 with a bunch of wins coming at end of season vs tanking teams
under .500 at home....1-4 in the playoffs
losing to some of the worst teams in the NBA
WAll regressed instead of getting better
young guys are not developing.
I hope we start 9-21 and Ernie and Randy are fired

The sad thing is the Wizards probably do take the PR perspective into consideration when in reality it shouldn't matter one bit.
Many coaches accomplished a lot more than Wittman did this past season and were replaced. It's disappointing that were still being led by Flip Saunders assistants 3 years after Flip was fired and we still haven't interviewed a single coach since before Flip was hired and John Wall was drafted. Just think about it... Witt & Cassell have been here to whole time and look how slow Wall's development has been. I would think an organization focused on winning would at least investigate or research the option of finding an upgrade on the bench to lead the franchise forward.
At least I'm not a big Caps fan because their GM hire was more than questionable.

9-21 is doubtful unless there's an injury excuse in play. More likely, we'd see a team that's still hovering around .500, still poorly coached, still displaying poor shot selection, still losing a lot of close games. Not enough to get anyone fired yet, but probably disappointing enough that 2015-16 becomes another make or break year for Witt & Ernie.
If anything, this past season pushed the Ernie/Witt referendum down the road for another two years.

Yeah, Ted promoted the long-time right-hand man of the guy he fired.
Amazing.
Sorry Caps fans.

Re: Wizards nearing extension with Wittman (Woj)
No other team is dying to bring in Witt so why do we need to give him 3 years? And I dont care how much pride he has, he's not going to turn down a 1yr deal because no one else will be dying to get him. I wouldnt bring him back at all but if you do then make it 1 year or 2 at the most which we digust me but I could understand but 3?
Now that he's back lets all move on. I will say this. We better better better better get a stretch big or else this move is horrible. You either have to have a new coach 100% or atleast have a stretch big. Else we will be looking at our Franchise player never reaching his full potential and us all depending on Wall's J to win us Championships. He's always going to at some point be reduced to looking like a very good role player because of it. The sad part is that Wall himself is even too dumb to realize this. Back to the Witt/Cassell telling him and our perimiter guys that shooting long 2's is the way to get to the top.
Get him/us a stretch big. Its our only hope. With the stretch big we can offset Witt/Wall's weakness. Without it we will always max out at some point even if we look dominant at times. Either get a new coach or a stretch big. The new coach obviously looks out and Im losing faith in our ability to get that big also. The best thing would obviously be Love but with the way that Flip probably hates us and the fact that Love probably hates Witt, its all looking worse & worse. Witt would have to kiss Love's asz and tell him that he was right and his style is succesful which is why we want him. At the same time we need Witt to butter up his old friend in Flip to give us a discount

The criticisms of the Caps hire -- coming from people who had never heard of him until yesterday -- are truly the height of reactionary stupidity.
Leonsis said of all the guys they interviewed, he was the MOST negative on the state of the organization and gave Leonsis direct feedback as to what he needed to do better as an owner. When have you ever heard of that before?
Just because this guy worked for McPhee doesn't mean he's not his own guy with his own ideas. I know I have disagreed with lots of my bosses on how things should be done. I'm sure many here have too.

Re: Wizards nearing extension with Wittman (Woj)
I really don't care about wins the next two years, as much as I care about development.
I do think a better coach could develop young players better than we have seen. Wall's and Beal's flaws need to be addressed, and our other youth (outside of Booker) haven't been well developed. It's like an instrument, you need to learn the fundamentals to progress. Without the fundamentals, you'll keep playing the same tune forever.
