with that said....I'm glad we held on and are now 5 out of our last 7.
that's a great place to be knowing that we're throwing Greinke and Kershaw next.

this year so far,

Zach Greinke 2.01 ERA, 3.15 FIB, 1.131 WHIP, 7-1 record
Josh Beckett 2.43 ERA, 4.00 FIB, 1.024 WHIP, 3-1 record
Hyun Jin Ryu 3.10 ERA, 2.71 FIB, 1.17 WHIP, 5-2 record
Dan Haren 3.16 ERA, 3.34 FIB, 1.245 WHIP, 5-3 record
Clay Kershaw 3.49 ERA, 1.53 FIB, 1.235 WHIP, 3-1 record

when looking at the conventional stats, it is crazy to see that Kershaw is the last of our starting 5 in terms of ERA or W-L record, but looking closely, he has given up a lot of runs he didn't deserve. Beckett seem to have benefited the most from getting lucky with our defense the most.
regardless, we don't have a single starting pitcher with a losing record, or below MLB average in WHIP or ERA. Beckett is cutting it thin with his FIB but overall, our starting 5 are kicking ass.
ehhhhh f it.

looking good.

wont gain any ground on the Gi-Guys tonight....but i'll take 6 out of 8.
finish the job Greinke.

btw....I do not own a Dodger Jersey.
any haggle with me buying a Greinke road jersey?
I think I want it because he's easily becoming one of my favorite Dodgers and because I kind of like the number 21 on the jersey.

I'll be careful about Greinke.

he has an opt out clause after this season, and judging by how well he has pitched so far, he will opt out and there is no guarantee that he would remain a dodger.

if I were you, and had to get a pitcher's jersey, I would rather opt for Kershaw, who has a long term deal without opt out, or Ryu, who also have a long term deal and cannot opt out for 4 more years.

"He gave his body up for the organization,” Stewart said. “He didn’t ask to be in this situation in the first place.”

RIP Matt Kemp.
His days as a Dodger are numbered I fear.

i loved Dave Stewart the player.

I hate Dave Stewart the agent.

it would be better for us to trade Crawford or Ethier along with Kemp, and just bring up Joc... trading one out helps, but there are only 3 everyday outfield positions and we would still end up with 3 players making millions, and the best of the 3 are making the least among them.

either still not 100% from his injury, or he could be another juiced athlete who is coming down after signing a huge contract....... hope it is not the latter.

as much as I realize he is a Texan and idolized Roger Celmens, I believe Kershaw has better morals than to juice. I still believe his "injury" was a bit manufactured to keep his innings down this year....so what you might categorize as "not 100% from his injury," I'll call rust.

what are your thoughts on this lineup Donnie made tonight?

I have always liked Ethier in 2 hole, mostly in his heydays for his high OBP%

....and Ethier's high OBP is of yesteryear's memories it looks like.

as of right now, with what we have on 25 men roster, my ideal lineup would be

1. L 2B Dee
2. R RF Puig
3. R 3B Hanley
4. L 1B Gonzo
5. R LF Kemp
6. L CF Ethier
7. R SS Arruebarruena
8. R C Butera

only change I would consider is to swap Hanley and Puig. if Joc can come up, he takes Ethier's slot.
ehhhhh f it.

if this wasn't about how much we overpaid ethier/kemp/ crawf etc. etc. Joc would have been up just on talent/ upside alone.

it truly sucks to know he's blocked knowing he's the best CF in our organization and he's projected to be a pretty good one.

hopefully Mariners take Kemp, and we can use one grossly overpaid LF in LF, and the other grossly overpaid LF as a PH and when in AL, a DH. Joc has to come up and play CF immediately.

with Joc in the lineup and Uribe back,

Dee
Puig
Gonzo
Hanley
Ethier
Uribe
Joc
AJ

we are perfectly balanced between lefties and righties, and have plenty of power all through out the lineup other than the leadoff and pitching spot.
ehhhhh f it.

I hate Don Mattingly's dumbass ideas of having a guy with "bat control" batting second, to put a guy like Shaun Figgins who cannot hit for average, or get on base, to bat in the 2 hole is such a waste of a very important spot.

ya he took a 12 pitch walk to bring up Puig with now bases loaded and two outs, but in a long run a guy like this at 2 hole will kill your rally most of the time.

what a disappointing series loss here.

Let's be COMPLETELY real here.
outside of going...what...42-8 last summer in that stretch...this team has played pretty much mediocre baseball since 2012.

you know who I blame.

Ned Colletti for assembling a team full of holes with 220 million dollar budget.

then Don for his inability to get the most out of still very talented roster.
