I think Ariza would be a great fit in coach buds system. If the hawks can sign Ariza then it would help out tremendously in next seasons run for the eastern conference finals lol.

Ariza would be an interesting pickup, but I admit he scares the h3ll out of me. He's been tagged as a contract year/playoff player who only shows up when he can maximize his next contract. Still, if Coach Bud and Ferry think they can get the most out of Ariza, then I'd be on board...

Believe me he scares me too. I just don't want the hawks to sign a free agent (like Melo) or any other superstar. I love the unselfish spurs like system that coach bud runs. I don't think a super star is going to benefit that system. Im one of those guys that prefers several key role players versus one star player. If the hawks can't grab Ariza then the next free agent id like to see them grab is Gordan Hayward.

While I also enjoy the unselfish spurs system that encourages balance, depth and unselfishness...it's worth noting that SAS hasn't won a Title since Duncan was in his prime.

They dominate the regular season, but struggle against teams filled with superstars in the playoffs. Their postseason success in recent years is mixed: losing in the 1st round, going undefeated through 2 rounds but getting smashed in the Conf Finals in 4 straight Games, losing in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Offensively, I fully support what we (and San Antonio) are doing.

But personnel-wise, I've come around to the line of thinking that we either need multiple superstars or a team of 2nd tier players across the board. (Think 2000 Portland Trailblazers or 2004 Detroit Pistons).

Every other NBA Champion has featured Hall of Famers next to a strong supporting cast. Including SAS.

Millsap, Horford, Teague are solid, but these guys need additional pieces to compete with the best players in the world.

Before this off-season I was interested in Ariza, but I think he is just a slightly bigger version of Demarre and I would rather stick with Demarre and keep our cap space for 2015. We need a wing who can create his own shot, not another 3-D guy. I see no point in giving Ariza 6-9 million per year to do a slightly better job than Demarre.
