I still think he ultimately couldn't walk away from that money and his agent told him "kid, you'lll be lucky to make 4.5 mill in the next 5 years if you opt out".

But, of course, he can't give that as his reason, can he?

Naw dude he was clearly out the door until SVG came aboard. Him hiring a new agent is clear indication there was no way he would return before, right?

He shot 42% from 3 last year. He tries hard. Isn't horribly out of position at the 3 or the 4. He could be useful this season.

I believe I read.

I don't see Smith coming off the bench willingly. The best bet is to bring Monroe off the bench. Gives him more time at Center. Smith's defense will give him the edge.

If the plan is to bring Moose off the bench, just S&T him away. Smith is a Dumars signing, re-signing Moose would be a SVG move and you can't justify $14M off the bench unless it's a sunk cost from the previous regime you are inheriting rather than something you'd be planning for like signing Moose with the intent of him coming off the bench this season.

Also Moose off the bench gives him no more time at center than Smoove off the bench because Moose only gets time at center when Drummond isn't in the game and Dre should be getting his 36mpg at center every game, meaning Moose will be getting 12mpg at center regardless if he's off the bench or slides over from PF when Dre comes out of the game.

I feel Monroe could do a lot with the second unit. The offense can run through him. I'm sorry but I don't see Smith leaving for what he is making. Do you really want to deal him for Bargnani? I can't see Detroit getting a better offer in all honesty.
