With league pass, the NBA allowing their stuff on youtube, NBA.com, international broadcast deals, the world cup of basketball + olympic play, etc the NBA is global more so than any other league. An international roster than wins, well the winning will draw in the local fans. The international part will increase your brand around the world. Just look at all the Aussies that still follow this team (dating back to Bogut). If I owned the Bucks, I would make more of an effort to promote pro basketball throughout the state, probably even having a few full time employees who focused on that (via clinics, youth programs, in game broadcast stuff, etc). But my MAIN efforts would go in to fielding a championship team with a fresh look and top notch scouting and coaching.
F--- winning over Sheboygan when half of China is staying up to watch Yao and TMac.
It seems (early on) like Lasry and Edens understand the global opportunities available to any team in the NBA.

INSTEAD go after the next generation, as well as the international market. Rebrand the look, rebuild the roster, uncover a new fanbase (without pandering to the 40+ age non basketball fans)..
Yes to all of the above (and I'm a part of the old fart group too)
I don't agree. I'd say, yes, make sure you're marketing explicitly to the new fanbase, in sync with what moves them.
But by no means ignore the dumb Wisconsinites whose companies buy season tickets. And whose apathy will turn to profitable interest as the team becomes up to date, better, more an active part of the community, and with a strong, likeable personality.
My youngest daughter became a Bucks fan, in part because she thinks it's really neat that the players come from all over the world.
I'm 74, and it think it's really neat that the players come from all over the world. Think the London game is terrific.

They made that loud and clear today. I am sure they pushed for that London game.

I would ask them what they can tell us about the basketball expertise they are bringing to bear in their stewardship of the Bucks.
Do they have a cadre of expert advisors to help them make owner decisions and help them evaluate the decisions made by the holdover front office?
Early on they stressed that they didn't intend to make basketball decisions themselves, because they were fans not authorities. Maybe they can tell us something about who they have or are adding to be the authorities.
IMO is acceptable that Hammond etc are retained for now. But IMO someone has to monitor their performance. Both to avoid mistakes at an important point in the New Era. And to recommend whether the current front office should be retained or replaced.

Fair point. The Bucks need every fan base they can recruit and retain.
I do think they absolutely need to think much bigger than Kohl & company did as far as marketing. The Bucks should absolutely be marketed to the whole state, not just Milwaukee County; AND marketed to the world - It is an international game.
Your point about not ignoring the corporate customer who provides consistent revenue is true, but from my experience the typical corporate attendees aren't always the most enthusiasitc fans either. The Bucks really need a big addition to their crop of avid, energetic fans; which means heavily recruiting those who you want as fans years from now.

I blame it on his small testicles.

I think the money comes mostly from the mild corporate attendees. Business guys with sporadic interests who typically are looking for a reasonably interesting thing to take a client to. They don't necessarily make much noise, they aren't loyal, but the money is core. Howsoever, the image of the team, and the contagious energy in the arena, is built on the fans you describe.

Not saying that they should take every idea the internet comes up with and run with it, but be open to constructive criticism. There are plenty of intelligent and informed people outside of their offices that are passionate about the team and will offer feedback (SOB, Brewhoop, Bucksketball, etc.). It shouldn't be seen as an attack on the team and then dismissed.

Re: If you could tell Lasry and Edens one thing tonight.....
They have said all the right things so far.
* Just showing up (on the floor) does not define success
* Think big when it comes to marketing the team (and the city)
* Build through the Draft
* San Antonio/Thunder as a template for success - both on the floor and as small market teams
* Enlarge the fan base
* Get the arena built
Make it happen - please!

After listening to them this morning, we're in great shape here. May be proven wrong quickly but I don't think so.
These guys get it and get it more so than they let on.
This is going to be culture shock for all of us, and in a good way.

PP, is it dreaming of me to hope that one of the ways they'll make the team succeed is to be a force for the city waking up and getting moving?
The team feeds off the city. Make the city more active and the team benefits.

Hope to make it tonight. Not sure what I'd say yet exactly. I'm sure it'll come to me after a few rounds.
