Steve Ballmer to Buy Clippers

Post#1 » by mttwlsn16 » Thu May 29, 2014 11:07 pm

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-sn- ... story.html

$2B

Not sure if this is totally legit or should've just been posted in the DTS thread w new owner rumors but it seems pretty legit to me. Of course I haven't heard the NBA OK it yet, or DTS himself, but he "won" Shelleys bidding war, so....

Story just broke a few mins ago

What matters is if he's an LA guy.

He's smart enough to know that moving out of LA to Seattle would instantly kill half the value he pays. The Bucks went for $550 because they play in Milwaukee. The Clippers don't even have their own arena and they are going for 4x that. Moving out of LA would be incredibly stupid and teams would line up to take their place.

relax.

nobody spends 1.8 billion dollars to immediately reduce a billion or more of its value simply to move closer to his hometown.

I really doubt the Clips are going anywhere. Even if ballmer wanted to move I don't think the league would let them.

It's a blow to Seattle chances of getting a team in the near future because it takes away their potential deep pocketed owner.

Congrats Clipper nation! This guy is going to be a GREAT owner! He's a basketball junkie and $$$ will not be an issue going forward! I may even have to jump on the Clippers bandwagon. At least until Seattle gets a team again!

lets just wait and see what Donald does from here on. he has already made some statements which renounced his consent to his wife to sell the team, and vows to take the matter to the court. there are even some rumbling about this whole thing was simply for Donald to valuate what the clippers could fetch to sue NBA.

frankly, I just wish Elliot Roger would have stabbed Donald to death then resuscitate just to stab him back to death, 3 times then shot him and his wife fatally, then ran over their bodies with his BMW instead.
ehhhhh f it.

Don't worry he just want to be a owner of NBA team - If anything is that it is going to be 20 times harder to get the NBA back to Seattle at all.

Congrats, he will be an excellent owner for your team just like his buddy Paul Allen has been for his three franchises. I'm also happy that it's not one of the obnoxious candidates like Oprah/Magic etc, they would make it about themselves and not about the Clippers.

Also I don't see him moving the team other than their own arena, maybe Anaheim but that's probably it.

I was kind of backin Geffen's group but Ballmer could be a good choice as well. Let's see how this develops.

I'm with you. This is not good. As Clipper fans we should all be very worried.

He's a billionaire people. If he wants his team in Seattle he won't care if its value drops.

What's the situation with the arena lease down there?

This definitely deserved its own thread. Good call.

Now Donald Sterling, the drama queen, will draw this out for as long as he can to stay relevant and win concessions. Personally, I'd rather the NBA just lay the hammer down on him but I'll take a quick and clean resolution. BTW what happened to that $2.5 billion bid he bragged about? Further proof he is nothing but a lying a-hole. I hope the government goes after him and his wife for tax evasion and whatever else the media can find in its investigative reporting.

He's already stated he won't be moving the team. And the league wouldn't let it go through.

It is my understanding that Rochelle Sterling included language that the team would not be moved nor change the team name from "Clippers". I believe the Clippers currently have a lease with Staples Center for 9 more years. The problem I have is that it was also reported that she would still be associated with the team in some way even without any ownership interests, which I hope the NBA will bar from happening.

Also, keep in mind that the value of the team is tied not only to the location but also the TV contract for that area. Not going to get the same deal in Seattle.

Dude, he's worth 20 billion freaking dollars. None of that matters if he can just buy his way out.

What Shelly and Ballmer said was lip service. Its what they're supposed to say. Has no bearing.

And conveniently the TV deal is up for renewal. These are worrying times.
