This may be a stupid question but as an owner don't you have the right to ask permission from the NBA to move the team? I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to move the team if he owns the team. Especially if they get an arena done in Seattle.

one reason would be that they signed a lease with staples center last yr that still has 9 yrs left on it. cant' just default on that.

anyway, im sure ballmer knows this and sees most of the value of his bid in LA's market and the clips upcoming TV deal. ballmer with his type of money and in a major market like LA is pretty scary.

Totally forgot about that but given how much money he has couldn't he buy out that lease if wanted too?

No they aren't. Don't even entertain the thought

Notes: Rookie Rudy Gay twisted his left ankle trying to guard McGrady late in the third quarter and limped to the bench. He returned with 5:51 left, then returned to the bench about a minute later - http://www.nba.com/games/20061231/MEMHOU/recap.html

Paying $2 Billion to send the team to Seattle where the value would go down to around $500 million isn't happening.

If the Clips are worth $2 Billion, the Lakers must be around $4 Billion.

It's been reported there is language in the deal that keeps the Clippers in LA
Wife: "you haven't heard a single thing I said"
Me: that's a funny way to start a conversation...

ballmer with his type of money and in a major market like LA is pretty scary. the only thing that kept holding back the clips was their owner's stupidity and cheapness. if ballmer hires the right people there's nothing stopping the clips from enjoying all the advantages the lakers traditionally had.

Eh.. Paul Allen had the highest payroll in the league or #2 through the Jailblazer era.. They still didn't win anything.. Not to mention they won't have cap space until 2017 or 2018 at the earliest.. This current team is locked in with nothing to improve the team but the mini mle, minimum contracts, & possibly a Deandre Jordan trade. They aren't making noise anytime soon.
