Potential "win now" teams that may want J. Smith

Looking at potential "Win Now" teams that could use J. Smith are: The Kings, The Lakers & Nets.

Option #1
The Kings don't want another young player to develop and are committed to bringing in veterans to make the next step. I could see a lineup of PG: I. Thomas, SG: B. McLemore SF: R. Gay PF: J.Smith & C: D Cousins beings successful.

How about the #8 Pick with J. Terry & D. Williams (both expiring).

Option #2
The Lakers have so much cap space and I don't think they can put enough talent around Kobe with just free agents. I don't think the Lakers are concerned with future as much as trying to put talent around Kobe for his next few seasons to make a legit run. No player at #7 will have a quick enough impact.

Would the #7 Pick and Steve Nash for J. Smith work?

Option #3 (Long shot/Dark horse)
The Nets want to win at all costs and J. Smith can get them younger and more athletic. KG looks done playing only 20 min/ game but I wouldn't mind him for a season to be a mentor ala Cliff Robinson before the Pistons became a contender.

KG for J. Smith

Even though J. Smith is not a good fit for the Pistons at SF and has a low BBIQ, given the right scenario he has value and I don't think moving him is as impossible as most believe.

The Lakers gave up on trying to win when they signed Kobe to his new deal. They aren't really looking to win-now, they're just hoping that former UCLA players KLove and Westbrook want to come home and play for them. They'll tread water until then.

Yes, but we've all seen desperate GMs deal for far worse deals and it's not like he failed at PF.

He's unwanted as a SF. And his contract isn't thrilling but he fills a need for some teams believe it or not.

Josh smith isn't worth a lotto pick he's still unwanted on the Pistons so they will sell low so why would the Kings buy at max value?

Maybe I'm crazy but can you make a list of a few players the Kings could acquire at PF for their unwanted pieces and the #8th pic that are better options than J. Smith?

Josh Smith nets a lotto pick?!? Lol. Josh Smith has a history. No GM is going to deal anything of value for him or his contract. Our best hope is that SVG keeps him in check and Smith plays like the stat stuffer he has been with a lot less three's.

A lotto pick though... Hahaha.

It's not like a top 5 pick with superstar potential. Can you make a list of a few players the Kings could acquire at PF for their unwanted pieces and the #8th pic that are better options than J. Smith?

Let me know what other athletic PF's are available. Sure the Pistons overpaid but they were not the only team interested in him last season.

Do you think the Kings are going to get K. Love with the 8th pick and some of their other contracts? LOL

People have debated taking on Gerald Wallace to get rid of Smith, that should tell you how much value anyone in this forum believes he has. Realistically, most experts have called Smith's contract untradeable, so the chance that we could get anything of value for Smith let alone a lottery pick on a cheap rookie contract is laughable.

I believe Smith is immensely talented but he is one of the dumbest players in the NBA. Why would the Kings take on a huge contract for a player who DOES NOT play to his strengths? And one who has a history of being a knucklehead in the lockerroom. Why would the Kings want to add Josh Smith's strong personality to a lockerroom that already has Cousins.

No way do they trade a cheap contract for such a high risk. It would be much safer for them obtaining a power forward who may not be as talented but not as big of a risk as taking on Smith would be.

"Untradeable" contracts are traded pretty much every year. Plus, unlike a lot of people on this board a lot of people around the league are capable of remembering things that are more than a calendar year old. Josh Smith has been a pretty damn solid player in this league for several seasons. On that same idea, it amuses me that a lot of people blame bad coaching/broken systems to give certain players passes, yet other players that were under those very same umbrellas aren't thought of in the same fashion. Its textbook example of bias.

I also don't get why a lot of people over rate bigs, and use that as reasoning why player x is more valuable than y. Why is Josh Smith immune to this phenomenon? Again, the answer is bias.

That said, I sincerely doubt doubt Smith can fetch a top 10 pick. There really aren't a lot of players that could, at least not ones that would actually be traded anyways. I personally think we need to let the Monroe situation play out, before worrying about what to do with Josh Smith.

In any event, Josh has lot more value around the league than most people choose to believe. I mean we are talking about an extremely athletic PF who has produced 18/10/4/2 caliber play with very good overall defense, and is still only 28 years old. Yeah, I think there are some teams out there that can use/want a guy like that.

I say this as a fan of Smith's game as a PF (minus 3's)... I don't believe the Kings will take in Smith's contract by giving up any value.

The time to move Smith is next season during the trade deadline when teams will be desperate to add that one piece that would push them over the edge into contender range

However, if we are talking about an offseason trade, the best trade partner for us in regards to Smith is Golden State

Lee + Draymond Green for Bynum and Smith

Smith and Bogut would be a crazy defensive combo for GS and Bynum gives them a cheap and solid back up PG that would flourish in their fast offense.Not one team can take on Lee and return a productive starter besides Detroit. Wolves will not except a trade for Love unless Klay Thompson and Barnes are thrown in and while Love is miles ahead of Smith the Warriors can make this trade with Detroit and hold onto Thompson and Barnes while gaining a solid starting PF in Smith.

Lee would put up quality numbers next to Drummond and would be entertaining to watch as he plays his heart out. Yes he has a history of injury but id rather have his injuries over Smith that piece of trash. Also Lee expires one year before Smith. We could bring him off the bench as a super 6th man.

Green is a great defender and his struggles on offense could be masked by SVG.
