Its obvious he is here for basketball reasons. Wyc mentioned there will be "Fireworks". It all makes sense. But from what Flip is saying is pretty much calling us fans delusional. According to him Love is 100% staying.
People who are not sure about Love. Well anytime you can get 26ppg and 12rbg consistently you go after that guy at all costs.
With Rondo and Love and hopefully a strong Center Celtics can easily be top 3 team in the east.
Flip is just saying what needs to be said. It looks like MN must still be negotiating with teams. Most likely means he is gone on draft day since around that time gives MN the most leverage.
MN is crazy to think that Love won't walk out the door after another losing season... It puts tremendous pressure on the Wolves to really improve next year and they aren't in great position to do so.
Simple math - it HAS to go down before the draft. MIN is going to want to control who is selected. This is all posturing to get final bids in - MIN just "put missles in Turkey" - they signaled an escalation with this weekend's fun.
I absolutely 100% agree that MN will want to pick their own player and not leave it up to a rival gm and that is what I meant by the draft....but it could be literally minutes before the 6th pick since some trades have gone down like that. I just think the Wolves have to be down to their final 2 teams or so by like minutes before pick 6 or even 1(in the unlikely event Cleveland decides to deal) and as long as they have worked out the picks or feel confident in their evaluations, they can try to make teams sweat to potentially gain more leverage. MN pretty much knows teams are unlikely to lower their offers until after the draft.
It could even be in theory a tentative deal in which they take a Celtics offer if player X is still on the board but go with another team's offer like Sacramento if that player is gone. I don't think this will be the case but its not completely farfetched.
We may never know for sure but I'll be damn curious about what the other teams are bidding for Kevin Love. If Lebron loses to SA, does that make him much more willing to go back to Cleveland since a 4 peat will be out of the question? Love's lack of post defense becomes less of a concern playing with Lebron since Lebron is really the only slasher in the game today that completely destroys defenses with his finishing and passing. Love and Lebron pairing makes lots of sense but tough to say if even Lebron is enough of a lure to bring Love to Cleveland.
