Re: Love in town to "see what it's like"
Whoever here that said Summer Vacation my As in reference to Kevin Love being Here Nailed it. I saw this via the Celticsblog. Here is the quote and link to the Video. Danny is one slick Gm.
Was Kevin Love giving Boston a test drive over the weekend?
Tim Welsh joined Sports Sunday and said Love had to "check out Boston" and the visit was "absolutely" what it looked like.
"He understands the history of the Celtics," said Welsh, "and that's what he's looking for. He wants a championship atmosphere and a culture, not necessarily a team that's going to win next year."
"He didn't know Boston, so he wanted to make a trip here… The love is there on the streets of Boston, I think it's only been a positive."

Well I mean, he has Laker blood flowing through his veins, so I wouldn't count it out.
So did Mr. Pierce
Yeah. But didn't Love's dad play for the Lakers? He grew up in LA? His girlfriend is in LA? He lives in LA? He went to school in LA? His uncle is a beach boy? etc? Might be a bit overblown, though. I thought I read once that he actually grew up in Portland for a large chunk of time.

So. Pierce grew up in La and look where he ended up playing majority of his career.

PF -- Love
C -- not filled with a permanent player.

Olynyk or Sullinger.
ugh, no thanks...
You may not like it but I like it with 45 million of cap room and picks. I see no reason why the Celtics with Steven/Ainge/great reputation and a legit high price star(Love) and legit emerging role player star(Leonard) can't attract the top tier FAs. Gamble for sure.
With that as your core? What in the world are you going to attract? Flies to the garden?

It's like a free agent visitation, except Minnesota's got him signed and they get to choose where to trade him. Is this Love and his agent trying to steer the direction of the trade?
It's so over the top and unprecedented that it makes me feel uneasy. I just worry that Flip and their owner Taylor don't get put off by this and take the Kings offer or something like that to spite us and Kevin. Love can put out all the vibes in the world that he hates anywhere else, but teams will think a year in their colors and the extra $ can sway anyone.
That might also mean he dosen't resign there....but instead he sign's with us...We get to keep our assets that way....really its a win win situation.....
The Wolves will take their "best" Boston deal on Kevin's urging.... They would be foolish not to....
These other teams wouldn't be foolish enough to cut themselves short...
Hey I don't like free agentcy....but it would be nice to benefit from it for a change...Would it not?
It sounds like he gets extended as part of a sign and trade sort of deal...don't you think?
Kings have said they are willing to trade for Love even without assurance of him signing on with them after

Winning culture and atmosphere = Not Kings. I guess that might not matter if it's a drive by destination.

Re: Love in town to "see what it's like"
I am not as giddy about this as most, but this is very good news for us.
I doubt the deal has been made. That said we are very much in the running.
Love is doing his due diligence. He has enough money. It is the other stuff. The culture, the people he'll be working with and the environment he'll be living in. It is the vision he has for his NBA career. Is Boston what he wants or is it even acceptable?
Flip is in a tough spot in Minnesota and the geography is not going to change. Contract law is his friend and he has Love under contract for next season. There is a chance with Love next year they might make the playoffs. That may be as good as it gets for him.
That said, it is in Flip's interest to treat his players with a certain amount of respect. A trade to Boston now would publicly show that kind of respect. That would add value to Minnesota's franchise. Nonetheless, we are still going to have to pay quite a bit. This guy is good.
It is a classic DA type situation where he concentrates talent. It is the three D's again - draft, develop and deal. We have the pieces to make the deal, now the question is, "Over the long term, will Love be happy here or not?" What are we getting and for how long? What is he worth to us.
DA wants to rebuild the dynasty, not just the next championship. Does Love share this vision? This is by no means a done deal. From our point of view this is what kind of deal are we talking about and how much is that deal worth to us. Love does offer a way to go.

Hope Love enjoyed Boston. All of this is interesting and I am sure the Celtics are in the mix for Love but I am just not going to get excited just yet.

Re: Love in town to "see what it's like"
This is such a weird situation. As a power play, it seems like a dick move and a really over the top way to send a message. I mean if he doesn't want to go to Cleveland or Sacramento, can't he just say through the back channels that he's not going to sign an extension in those places? Also it seems like it's walking a line regarding tampering seems more likely he'd have the Twolves blessing before doing this. I guess his agent could have coordinated most of this, but given some of Taylor's comments in the past about Love, I'm not sure I see a real hesitancy to deal, i.e. there isn't a need for a giant kick in the ass to get things in motion.

Right now the only thing I know for sure is that he's is cleary saying " Trade me or get nothing because I'm not staying " Other than that who knows. What if he continues to go on a tour to Houston Phoenix and Golden State etc..he could just be using Boston as leverage which is pretty lame.

Re: Love in town to "see what it's like"
My gut is telling me that the Groundwork for a deal that Danny Ainge was talking about a month ago is this deal between the Timberwolves and the Celtics. I think the Deal is in place and has been and Minnesota brass is just saying conflicting things just to save face.
I'm so convinced that Kevin Love doesn't want to go from the sardine can that is the West to another team in the West because look what happened to San Antonio in the first round this year. They get taken to 7 games against the Mavericks. Thats just life in the NBA for the Western Conference. I think that will always be like that as long as players want warmer weather environments.

I agree. I do not think any deal has been worked out with any team. This was a power play by Love. It is good to see Boston is on the list though.

Great post Ben.. Def a risk that Love could be using us.. At the end of the day Minny will look to maximize their return of Love and Boston can come tot he table with a plethora of assets..

Not sure if I saw it posted already, but Love's agent Jeff Schwartz is the very same Jeff Schwartz who represents a certain former Celtic captain who will be a free agent in July... and I'm not talking about Dee Brown.

So, is it wrong if I order my #42 Kevin Love Celtics jersey now, or would I be jinxing it just like the guy rocking the Oden jersey before the 2007 lottery?

I don't quantify not getting Oden as a jinx. More like a godsend.

So you give up at least a lottery pick + you have to pay Kevin Love the max? That would be a bad deal for the Celtics..
