Stan Van Gundy's making his first major front office hire, finalizing agreement with Jeff Bower to become Detroit's GM, sources tell Yahoo.

Beat me to it! As I said in the other thread, Bower is the candidate that I felt was the most competent of the names mentioned.

Should do a decent job working under SVG.

That's a bit of surprise. He's the guy that put the chris paul, david west, tyson chandler team together. He's definitely got a good eye for talent and fit.

Good, No Jackson, Otis, Isiah or BC. Well at least we finally got this done with.

Bower was third in Executive of the Year voting in 2008, when New Orleans won 56 games and advanced to the Western Conference semifinals. In seven years as GM, the small-market franchise reached the playoffs four times. Bower played a part in drafting Chris Paul, David West and Darren Collison, as well as trading for Tyson Chandler.

Sounds better than Stu, Otis, and Thomas thus far.

Sounds like a good hire to me, now we got the GM and assistant coaches hired, lets get focused on making moves.

He put together a nice team in New Orleans with limited capital. They may have had a small window, but there were a number of extenuating circumstances. I like the move.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Has made tough decisions (trading Baron Davis at the time), drafted talented players (Paul, J.R Smith, Darren Collisin, David West, etc.), and made good trades (Chandler).

He is going to be much better than Layden, Jackson, or Smith.

Yeah that team was super underrated. Training JR for Chandler was a great move.

Bower is no golden boy, but he has a pretty solid track record. Considering the huge pile of crappy unwantedness that was also being considered, this is a great hire by Stan. I'm happy to see that he didn't let his personal relationships supercede business.

Bower has a very nice portfolio. He has experience of being a head scout, head coach and, general manager all at the NBA level. You don't get much more diversified than that. He also seems to have a nice eye for the draft.

I'm excited with this move. Well played Stan

The key is his track record compared to the rest of the rumored candidates. I'm alright with this move.

Terrible hire. We should have just hired SVG, gave SVG power, and kept Dumars.

Good hire, or at least good enough. SVG still has control. Time to start making some moves.

Does anybody have a list of moves Bower made during his time as GM of the Pelicans/Hornets?
