Wow Hibbert still got in after a complete second half of the season meltdown.

these days, PG's are so good that there isn't really such thing as a PG who can lock down the opposing team's playmaker. so while CP3 gets big numbers put on him all the time, i think he causes enough chaos to be considered a pretty good defender. and while i think his reputation is a little bigger than his actual play it's hard for me to think of anyone else i'd rather put there, at least until eric bledsoe plays a full season.

also yeah i have no idea how hibbert got onto the second team after his second-half disappearing act. DJ clearly deserved that spot. really, anyone else not-named hibbert was more deserving.

The all defense teams always end up being controversial by nature. I think Paul earned it this year, but there are definitely legitimate arguments for some omissions and different assignments across the 2 groups.

It doesn't help that there are a bunch of incompetent voters either.

Well, defense has always been the side of the game that you're not gonna notice unless you really pay attention. Offense is easier to understand because you'll notice most things just by following the ball, but the most important parts of defensive schemes happen off the ball. Apparently, even some analysts or journalists have trouble with this.

That's why on-ball defenders, like Beverley or Tony Allen for instance, are always more hyped than fundamentally sound defenders like Paul, Conley or Rubio. Also, people tend to equate bad defense with your counterpart having a good offensive game, i.e. "Westbrook lit up Paul lulz".

Also, I think people tend to overplay Hibbert's struggles beacuse he, and Indiana as a whole, were awful offensively. But they spent half a season being an historic defense (with a very tangible shot at the best defense of all time), and even when they melted down, they were a top 7 defense after the allstar break. That has to count for something. OKC had a worse defense in that period, and a MUCH worse before the break, and no one seems to fault Ibaka for it.

This is all kinds of awesome.

Chris Paul just made the inner ’90s teenager in all of us extremely jealous by receiving an autographed photo from none other than Kelly Kapowski — Bayside High’s most popular girl and head cheerleader. Add that to the long list of perks of being an NBA superstar.

Congrats to Chris for making the all defensive team. He is really a good defender and I noticed that he really locked in during the playoffs. During the regular season I noticed that he would get beat off the dribble sometimes, but in the playoffs I didn't see that too much.

I didn't even think about the 2nd defensive team until I looked for it. I don't know what DJ has to do to get recognized for his defense. He pretty much had a career year all around and didn't make the all-star team or a defensive team. Well there is always next year. I hope he can use this as motivation so he can be recognized, plus he can still improve defensively.
