OT: SkyDome Turns 25 Today

Post#1 » by Waylon Mercy » Tue Jun 3, 2014 11:45 am

Hard to believe the Dome is already a quarter of a century old. What is some of
your favorite moments at Skydome and some of the memorable games/events you've
personally been to?

This is my favourite Raptors SkyDome moment of all-time. For people bitching about our end of game plays....it could be a lot worse.

Could you imagine if this happened today with Chuck Hayes or something bricking a 30 footer at the buzzer blowing a chance to take the Heat to OT? Realgm would burn down.

I'm just kidding, same here, I could never agree to call it based on Rogers.

I would say the shining moment has to be Joe Carters homerun.

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

No real Torontoian refers it to that except for broadcasters on TV that
have no choice.

Unless you're like 10 years old and basically that's all you know.

It's aging faster than Lindsey Lohan, has had nearly as much work done, and almost as many people inside.

89' kid here. I used to love going to the Jays games there. IIRC my public school used to take us to a few.

As a kid Carter's HR and Warrior beating Hogan were definitely my top 2 memories.

Edit: I'm sorry Hulk_Hogan I really meant no disrespect by the above comment.

Hard to believe it's 25 years ago. 25 years ago the same week was the Tianenmen Square massacre in China, the death of Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini and the beginning of the fall of the Communist block.

Talk about showing age, I remember seeing games at Exhibition Stadium when I was a kid... Benches instead of seats... Classic...

Biggest moment I saw live was the game Jose Canseco hit one into the 500 level... Crazy!

I was at that game!

I seem to recall seeing Nolan Ryan pitch around the same year, which was cool.

Best moment has gotta be Joe Carter's walk-off homer to win the World Series in '93.

It's the only time a championship has been won in Toronto in any of the major sports leagues in almost 50 years (I'm not counting the CFL or NLL).

Plus that was back at the time when the SkyDome was still considered state of the art, and the Jays were setting attendance records around the league -- we sold out basically every game and had 4MM+ fans watch the Jays in person that year...think about that...that's 81 games at 50,000+ people per game.

What other team in the league manages to sell out all their games (I think only the Red Sox right? And Fenway only seats about 28,000 people or something?)
Interviewer: Championship #2?
Ujiri: Hey...We're gonna get it. I don't know when it'll be, but we're gonna get it. Just like I said we'll get the first one and I said I didn't know when we'd get it...But we will. Guarantee you we will.

My first game at the Skydome was Dave Stewart's no-hitter, I didn't enjoy watching my team get no-hit but I can appreciate it now

Off the top of my head I think it's the 5th oldest stadium in the league behind Fenway, Wrigley, Dodger Stadium and the Oakland Coliseum.

I think it will be the home of the Jays for another 20 years before there is any talk of a new stadium.

I personally love the Bailey/Johnson race.
