With this roster I would say somwhere between 35 and 40. Probably closer to 35 though. Now if we add some shooters to the lineup and replace Jennings than it could be around 40 wins.

Maximum 45 games. Detroit blew a lot of 4th quarter leads last season, and that's more than likely the result of a lack of execution on both sides of the floor. Van Gundy can shore that up to say the least, but the lineups getting big minutes are inherently flawed on both sides of the floor. Slow defense, and poor shooting.

It's funny — I started essentially this exact thread after the Bulls got eliminated, only I was speculating how much better Thibodeau could make this roster if he became available. You can pretty much just replace the speculation about Thibs with the reality of SVG 'cuz both are bonafide winning coaches.

I'll say 39; a ten game improvement with no roster changes would be a huge accomplishment for any coach and his staff.

There was probably like 10-15 games we should've won this season. I would say 43

Against this year's east or last year's east? 5 of the top 6 picks are going to east teams and boston is getting rondo back. The bottom of the conference should be much improved, so we have to get better just to maintain our record.

With more spacing, and a strict no "big 3" policy, I could definitely see us a healthy amount of games above .500

As someone who listened to SVG religiously on the LeBatard show I can tell you he definitely gets whats wrong with the Pistons.

He knows the roster is a mess and their floor spacing is among the worst in the league. Expect one of Monroe or Smith to be traded.

Here is a link to Stan Van Gundy discussing the Pistons along with interviewing Drummond (11-6-2013).

30 games.

Some of the tanking teams wont be tanking anymore and teams like philly and Milwaukee will be much improved.

The worse we've gotten the more of a homer i've become. My W/L predictions have been pretty bad lately. We should improve simply from Drummond being a year further along and from a coach who knows how to use him. But the roster is still a mess. No other changes? Maybe 5 more wins? But I'm hoping a few moves to add spacing get us closer to .500

1. Surround shooters around Dre and Moose
2. SVG set up an actual defensive and cohesive offensive scheme
3. ???
4. 40 wins

I don't really expect Orlando/Philly/Milwaukee to be that much better. It took Lebron a year before he really took off and Wiggins/Parker are not Lebron. The Knicks could be much worse. The Nets could be a tire fire quick. Boston could make a big splash or it could just be Rondo and parts. Who knows with Cleveland. Atlanta could blow it up and move Horford.

I echo the 35-40 win team comments. Guard play is so important now, even if we effectively managed the 3 bigs into a working rotation that's the best in the league our guards are so atrocious I don't know how much improvement is really possible.

We had so many winnable game going into the 4th quarter this season that it's hard not to be a little optimistic that a real coach could turn that around. We showed glimpses of being a good team, but also proved we had no real direction or leadership.
Without any major roster moves we SHOULD be at least a .500 team.

Enough to make the playoffs.

That should be the goal and it's very realistic IMO

One thing that will be used more is analytics...
per Mlive "Van Gundy said he plans to expand use of analytics, with probably two hires devoted specifically to crunching numbers in search of fractional statistical advantages.

"It's not going to necessarily be the teams that have the most numbers, because we've all got it," Van Gundy said. "It's who can use those things in the best way to help you make your decisions that's going to be important."

It's too early to predict wins... SVG has stated that he will not likely roll with the same group (or lineups) "and expect better results"... let's wait til at least after the FA signing window is over.
