Kawhi Leonard has earned his first All-Defensive selection as part of the second time, while Tim Duncan missed out for the only the third time in his career, the NBA announced Monday.

Leonard, 22, is joined by Miami’s LeBron James, Indiana’s Roy Hibbert, Chicago’s Jimmy Butler and Houston’s Patrick Beverly. The first team comprises Chicago’s Joakim Noah, Indiana’s Paul George, Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City’s Serge Ibaka, and Golden State’s Andre Iguodala.

Duncan finished fourth among others receiving votes, behind the Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan, Anthony Davis of New Orleans and Memphis’ Tony Allen.

Leonard earned 16 first-team votes and 57 second team, giving him 89 points overall to finish ninth in the voting, which is done by select panel of NBA media including Jeff McDonald and Mike Monroe of the Express-News. He becomes the seventh Spur to earn All-Defensive honors, joining Duncan, David Robinson, Bruce Bowen, Alvin Robertson, Dennis Rodman and George Johnson.

Congrats to Kawhi!

Congrats to Kawhi also!

I'm not complaining about where Kawhi is on that list but it is kind of a joke. Are they really saying Paul George, Chris Paul and Andre Iguodala are better defenders than Lebron James? That's screwed up and I'm not a big fan of Lebron.

Defence team voting is weird. I'm sure I remember the DPOY missing the 1st Team recently. I think it was Tyson Chandler or Marc Gasol.

But congrats to Leonard. Good to see he is getting recognised for his hard work.

It was Marc last year.

I really don't take any of award voting seriously anymore. Beat writers have no business voting for any of the awards; their either extremely biased or just haven't seen enough of the other 29 teams.
