Dolan: Phil Jackson Being Given Full Control To Run Knicks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 4, 2014 3:04 am

Jim Dolan on Tuesday addressed the status of the New York Knicks' search for a new head coach and approach heading into free agency.

Dolan stated Phil Jackson continues to have final say on the Knicks' decisions.

"I made a commitment to Phil that he was going to run it," Dolan said during a radio interview. "Unless he asks me to help, it's his to run.

"Phil asked me not to tell anybody this but I'm going to tell you," Dolan said. "For my birthday, my family gave me a T-shirt and it says only two words on it -- it says, 'Ask Phil.' That's it. I have not asked him about the coaching search on purpose. I have not asked him about it. I just told him I'm here for you if you need me. If you don't need me, that's fine, too. I got lots to do."

When asked about the Knicks' head coaching search, Dolan said, "I have no idea who he's talking to" and that Jackson has to "check back with me" when he starts talking money."

So Jackson hasn't started talking money with any coach yet.

What is Scottie Pippen doing these days? He wouldnt be interesting in coaching?

Just throwing it out there.... After all, he's asking all of his former players.

Won't be long until Phil gets Donnie Walsh'd. Dolan's got no self control.

Steve Mills (most likely on behalf of Jackson) has apparently already contacted Pippen to gauge his interest in joining the coaching staff (likely as an assistant coach). Pippen did not divulge much information about what was discussed other than saying that if the opportunity makes sense he'd listen.

What's gone? Every GM in the NBA would need to get the owners agreement before offering any money to anyone. Or did you actually believe that the GM has free reign to offer anyone anything (and the owner's will have to deal with it)?

I'm from Toronto. We had a mayor addicted to crack and he kind of said things like this after getting caught doing things he said he would never do. Not saying Dolan is a crackhead, but come on, this really sound like an addiction type of problem. Let's just accept that he will continue to meddle, and Phil is not going to last the entirety of this contract. It could be a fun run next summer though for NY. Let's hope Phil can last this long at least. Hope is there. Poor fans... :noway:

Yeah...it's not easy having him as an owner of your team. He's not a crackhead, or at least not that anyone knows. What he is, is an idiot. He's even come out and said so. Dolan once referred to himself as an (and I quote) "idiot when it comes to basketball". It's likely the most accurate thing he's ever said. The fact that he would even say it publicly is just proof that what he was saying is true (only an idiot would admit that he's an idiot when interviewed on national TV). Dolan is basically the guy that would have ended up cleaning men's bathrooms or cleaning manure out of the cages at zoo's if he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

It's so obvious this is requiring every ounce of Dolan's willpower not to meddle.

At least people will get paid, people like Jackson...whether they can build a team together the way the Knicks function? Not so sure about that...

From not supporting Jacksons decision to fire certain employee's and bashing his own team inbetween songs of his bands performances, I just can't believe in any of this.
