Thad 10 and 32 to LAL for #7 or Thad 10 and 39 to Sac for 8. Than trade some 2nds to try and get a late 1st rounder around the 20-25 range
I don't know why everybody is willing to trade Thad. I get that he is probably the only trade asset that 1) the Sixers may be willing to part with, and 2) would actually get something useful in return, but I think Thad can be an important part of this team going forward. First of all, as crazy as Hinkie may seem, he's not giving Brett Brown a team of 9 players that are either rookies/2nd year players. Thad is a hard worker and a veteran. Both are needed on the team. And while he's been in the league for what seems like a long time, he's at the early stages of his prime now.
Nobody knows how the draft will eventually work out, but Thad and Noel could be a pretty good tandem in the front court. With the possibility of adding Wiggins/Parker and Stauskas/Harris/McDermott, Thad fits in there pretty well. For sure the team will be able to get up and down the floor and pay with the kind of pace that Brown wants.
Why play all your cards now? Hinkie has a lot of flexibility. Thad is a known commodity around the league. I doubt his trade value changes dramatically in the short term. There is something to be said for waiting for the right opportunity as opposed to jumping at the first one that presents itself. Maybe Philly's cap space combined with Thad could be part of a multi team deal trade featuring Kevin Love (not saying Love necessarily lands in Philly) which would net the Sixers something really good (e.g. a couple of unprotected first rounders and several 2nd rounders like Utah got from Golden State in the Biedriens/Jefferson/Rush trade).
I just don't like the idea of throwing Thad in a trade to move up 2-3 spots from #10. Thad is an asset. Hinkie likes collecting assets. All of us, including Hinkie, would like to parlay some the assets to get better assets. I just don't think a two-for-one (Thad and a pick for one pick) to move up 2-3 picks is the right move now and I'm not sure Thad and #10 for presumably Vonleh/Randle/Gordon is a clear upgrade in assets. I'm excited about Vonleh, Gordon et al, but who is to say any of these guys will end up better than Thad. Thad is a pretty good player right now, and he fits into a team concept really well. He runs the floor, hustles, doesn't need a lot of possession to be effective on offense, plays absolutely great pick and roll defense, is versatile, and is a solid citizen. Philly can definitely use a player like that.
