Stauskas every time, Parsons value is in his low salary contract. Once that is gone his value plummets.

There's different variations on how this could play out depending on what exactly is the Rockets' intentions by declining Chandler Parsons' 4th year option to make him a restricted free agent

If I had to choose between just Parsons or Nik Stauskas as laymen as you put it out, I would choose Stauskas...

...but Charlotte has enough cap space to pursue more than one scenario, so my picture perfect sequence would be to draft one of James Young or Zach LaVine at #9 and then sign Parsons to a $9-11 million deal for 3 years max. That would make the Hornets a better team now with a bright outlook into the next decade

“I had guys last year come to me and say they could see themselves (signing) here,” Jefferson said. “I have guys calling me about how the coach is, (looking to) confirm how great Coach Clifford is.”

To that point, Jefferson says he’s begun doing this off-season what point guard Kemba Walker did with him a year ago: Recruiting players to consider the Hornets’ pitch once free agency begins in July.

Awesome so Al/Kemba don't have to wait until July to start shooting those text messages?

I really hope Melo lands in Houston. If he does, the Rockets will have to let Parsons walk and we could sign him without having to do a sign and trade and thus keep pick 9.

Stauskas + Chandler Parsons would be a major coup for us. We'd become a legit inside-outside team. Kemba + Stauskas + Parsons on the floor at the same time would drive defenses nuts.

The other route is McDermott + Lance Stephenson.

Yeah, Parsons is like a $7 million per year guy to me at best. I think he's really worth around 5.

Would you be mad if we gave him 7?

I'd give him $9M without thinking twice about it. He's in a tier with Afflalo as far as wing players go

Now we just need to confirm that "these guys" are the likes of Stephenson or even Melo, not Earl Watson or something

The sad part about that Jefferson statement is that I'm almost certain Evan Turner was one of the players because I vividly remember him lobbying with the Bobcats players extensively after one of the games when he still was a Sixers player. All in all, Turner wouldn't be a bad pickup for about $2-4 million as a versatile backup combo guard/forward

I think you're high, he put up 16.6-5.5-4.0 on good percentages and low turnovers. He's comparable to Batum and Gallinari. See below on the calculations for what Gallo/Batum money means.

In 12-13 the Team salary Cap was 58.0 Million and 58.6 million for 13-14
Gallinari got a deal starting at 9.4 million a year and a total of 43.5 over 4 years
Batum got a deal starting at 10.8 million a year and a total of 46 over 4 years

We know the 14-15 Cap will be 63 million and the projected 15-16 is 66.5 million, with the cap rising faster I think it's fair to average the two to get your proportional figure, the average being 64.7 million

Proportionally paying Parsons a deal along the lines of Batum and Gallinari would be like paying him starting at
10.5 (Gallo) and 48.5 over 4 years
or 12 (Batum) and 51.3 over 4 years

So with those numbers adjusted for todays cap I think if you start him anything above 13 or 56 for the duration of the contract it's a major overpay

How often was Parsons being guarded by the other team's best defender? You've got Harden and Howard getting primary focus, that team made Terrance Jones look like a good offensive player. I think you're high if you think Parsons is worth healthy Gallo or Batum money.

I think that the Rocket’s real play in making Parsons a restricted FA is so they can sign him to whatever number is needed in order to make sign and trades work this summer. If you listen to Rockets fans they really like the guy but don’t see him as the third guy to make a contender work. Even with the cap going up giving him $13 mil is financial suicide for the Hornets. It would lock them in to an “OK” guy right before Kemba and the rest of the young guys start aging out of their Rookie contracts. I like Parsons and agree that he would be a nice player with the current Hornet’s roster … but I think that it’s insanity to sign him for big money and naive to think that signing him would be a simple matter.

On Evan Turner I agree with MKA. $2-4 mil for him isn’t horrible. The real issue would be where does he fit? The Hornets would need to get rid of Hendo or Neal to really have room for him.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

They release the most likely free agent signing for each team in 2014, has the Hornets signing Rudy Gay... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2086609-explosive-athletes-bring-hope-to-laker-nation-in-pre-draft-workouts#articles/2082009-nba-free-agents-2014-the-most-likely-signing-for-every-nba-team/page/5

With a signing like this, and a draft pick of either Zach Lavine or James Young (prefer Zach Lavin, since we don''t have to trade away Hendo then with adding a player like Rudy, and MKG can play some SG just to provide Defense Pressure on teams top shooters... and with the 24 pick add a PF or PJ Hairston if available... team could really look strong at contending in the 2nd round of playoff if not making the conference finals..
1. Kemba Walker
2. Hendo or PJ Hairston (if drafted)
3. Rudy Gay
4. Cody Zeller (I think McRoberts will be a Spurs or Laker next year, A signing of a good PF would help also, I think Ivan Johnson should get an opportunity at PF for the Hornets killed in China averaging 28 points and 10 rebounds and also going after Matt Booner, Jordan Hill, Ryan Kelly )
5. Al Jefferson

*Zach Lavine, *PJ Hairston, Gary Neal, MKG, Brendan Haywood, Bismack, J Taylor, **Ivan Johnson, **Matt Booner, **Ramon Session

*If drafted
**If signed in free Agency

Turner is a Swiss Army knife, which pretty much mean he'll get in where he fit in because he could play backup PG, SG, or SF, and at $2-4 million he won't hurt the cap, just add versatility to the depth of the bench with a player that can play multiple positions

As a UConn fan, one of my favorite teams was the 2005-2006 Huskies led by Rudy Gay to a 30-4 record along with Marcus Williams, Josh Boone, Hilton Armstrong, Rashad Anderson, and former Bobcats player Jeff Adrien, so I wouldn't mind bringing Gay into the fold. To me he is one of the best scoring small forwards in the league and he's a solid defender & rebounder to boot. Gay certainly isn't a 1st option of a team planning on going far, but he's a quintessential 2nd/3rd option

However, I would feel guilty about the signing because it would push MKG's development to the back burner for a couple years and probably shoot his confidence even more, but not all's fair in love & basketball

I keep seeing it arise, but I seriously doubt that Gay would opt of that last year of his contract unless a team gave him at least a 4-year deal, and I don't necessarily know if I'd recommend that, nor would he opt out of in excess of $19 million

Melo's a stretch 4 at this point in his career and they'll just dump Asik and Lin for whatever they can.

Beverly
Harden
Parsons
Melo
Dwight

Other than Terrance Jones, their bench would be really thin however.

Wow, that's nuts. He's better than batum and Iggy and you think he should be paid millions less? Perhaps, subconsciounsly, you're saying this because of his skin color? :dontknow:

And 4 years younger. I'd go $11/year easily.
